IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, because of technology a lot of thinges were changed to improve the life style of indevidual. One thing that people will not be spend their money to buy printed newspaper, because now they had oppertunity to read daily news online instead to bought it. I completely agree with this statment, that no one will need to buy printed newspaper for daily news.

There are many reasons due to which no one will be needed to bought newspaper. Firstly, no one would like to speend money without an important thing. If there is oppertunity to read every day news on their mobile phone, then why they would pay for frinted newspaper. For example, in past people bought newspaper to read daily news, but know daily news can easily achivable through mobile phone.

Secondly, there is still the demanding of book is high, but not perminent, because if every thing regarding to study is easy to find online then no one would be pay for that, and with time it will become useless and even no one be like to print it. For example, when people are not intrested to buying printed newspaper or books then at last, newspaper or books will not be printing and no one will be found it. And last reason is that it is difficult to take the printed newspaper with himself instead of found it through mobile phone.

In conclusion, the printed newspaper or books will be finish, and nobody will be buy it, because of online access to the daily news as well as easy to study online.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you state, “I completely agree,” and return to the view that printed newspapers and books will no longer be bought. You also give relevant reasons, including the convenience of accessing news on a phone and the possibility of finding study materials online. However, the response only partly develops the task. The discussion focuses mainly on newspapers, while the claim about books receives a brief, unclear explanation; the point that printed items are difficult to carry is also asserted rather than supported. The examples mostly repeat the general claim instead of showing how free online access will replace purchases. To strengthen the response, address both books and newspapers in more depth and explain the conditions behind your prediction, such as whether online material is genuinely free and accessible to everyone.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify the stages of your argument. However, progression within the body paragraphs is uneven, and some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, the second body paragraph moves from demand for books to newspapers becoming unavailable, then to the inconvenience of carrying print, without clearly showing how each point supports the main claim. Repetition of “no one” and “printed newspaper or books” also makes the argument feel circular. Organise each paragraph around one distinct reason, explain it, and then give a specific example; use pronouns and linking phrases only when their references are clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “daily news,” “mobile phone,” “printed newspaper,” and “online access,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the reader work to interpret your meaning. Examples include “the demanding of book is high,” “easy to study online,” and “will be finish.” There are also frequent spelling errors, such as “oppertunity,” “statment,” and “intrested.” Build a more precise set of topic expressions and check spelling carefully. For instance, distinguish between demand for books and the availability of digital study materials, and use natural collocations such as “access news online” or “purchase printed books.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional forms such as “If there is opportunity to read every day news on their mobile phone, then why they would pay…” This shows an effort to express reasons and hypothetical situations, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. Examples include “people will not be spend,” “they had opportunity,” and “no one will be needed to bought newspaper.” Subject–verb agreement and sentence construction are also problematic in “the demanding of book is high” and “nobody will be buy it.” Practise reliable patterns such as “people will not spend,” “they have the opportunity,” and “no one will need to buy a newspaper.” Then check verb forms, articles, and punctuation in each sentence.
