IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The technology is growing day by day. In coming years nobody is going to pay for printed newspapers or books because they will be able to access everything virtually without bayering any monetary costs.
The modern age tech has seen significant improvements, mobiles, computers and tablets are light weighted and easy to carry. Internet has connected the world virtually.
People used to wait for days to access news papers and books, but now everything is on your finger tips. The news channels and books are readily available online, you don't have to wait for days to access them. If something happening in one corner of the world and you are in another corner the world thousands of kilometers away, you can still access it virtually with the help of internet.
On the other hand, corporations behind these virtual apps also need money to maintain them. Many companies charge you to provide access to their platforms. Many apps are free to access but you need to watch different advertisements to keep scrolling. Everything has its costs, many people buy unwanted stuff by watching these advertisiments. Many firms prefer push marketing, they pay different platforms to run their ads on the face of platforms. In this way something you may or may not be willing to buy but it keeps appearing in front of your screen. Someday in a good mood you will buy that unwanted product.
In conclusion, In few years everything will be available virtually and you dont need to buy printed news papers and books but it won't be free of cost, somehow you are paying for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the central issue and give a clear position: digital access will reduce the need to buy printed material, but it will not be genuinely free because users pay through subscriptions, advertising, or purchases influenced by ads. The discussion of platform costs and advertising is relevant support. However, the opening largely repeats the prompt, and the argument that printed books and newspapers will no longer be bought is asserted rather than fully examined. The point about advertising leading people to buy unwanted products is also less developed than the explanation of online access. To strengthen the response, explain more directly why printed formats may persist and develop each supporting example into a clearer link to your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph about the convenience of digital access, a contrasting paragraph about its hidden costs, and a conclusion. The contrast marker “On the other hand” helps signal the shift in argument, and the ideas within each main paragraph are generally related. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, with repeated references to “everything” and “access,” and several sentences in the second body paragraph move from platform costs to advertising and then to impulse buying without clearly showing the links between these points. The conclusion repeats the main claim rather than drawing the strands together. Use clearer topic sentences and more precise referencing to make the relationships between examples easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “virtually,” “platforms,” “advertisements,” and “push marketing,” and the reader can understand your main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “maintain them” and “run their ads.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “light weighted,” “on your finger tips,” and “on the face of platforms.” Spelling errors such as “bayering” and “advertisiments” also reduce accuracy. Repetition of broad terms such as “everything” and “access” limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and precise wording, and proofread spelling so that your vocabulary communicates ideas smoothly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including a conditional example beginning “If something happening in one corner of the world…” and a relative clause in “something you may or may not be willing to buy.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “If something happening” needs a finite verb (“If something is happening”), and “you are in another corner the world” is missing “of.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “The modern age tech has seen significant improvements, mobiles…” and “In conclusion, In few years…”. Practise forming complete conditional clauses and checking articles, verb forms, and punctuation. More accurate complex sentences would improve control.
