IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Very soon, people will no longer be interested in buying printed newspaper or books because they will have access to read anything they want online without charges. I firmly agree with this statement because many people find it extremely easy to read anything online compared to reading newspaper or books and they won't have to pay for it.
One of the reason people may no longer be intereted in printed newspaper or books is that it is more easier to read online with their mobile phone, and reading online give them access to make research and ask questions online if they don't understand what they are reading. For example, i like reading online with my mobile device because when i don't understand what i read i can easily ask questions on chatgpt or claude and i will get an answer to my questions immediately.
Another reason is that there are many books and newspaper online that you are not required to pay to access them .In additon most TV stations or a radio stations have an account on social media platform that you can follow and get an update on any news going within the country. For instance, in nigeria many radio station and Tv station like punch,CNN,ekiti Tv now have an active account online where citizen can read all the news going in the country.
In conclusion, I belive that in the future peope will prefer to reading online because this will be comfortable compared to the convention way such reading printed newspaper or books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you firmly agree that free online access will reduce demand for printed newspapers and books. You give two relevant reasons—convenience and the availability of news and reading material online—and support them with personal and Nigerian examples. This addresses the task, but the discussion is not equally developed: the first point explains how online tools help readers, while the second mainly lists media accounts and does not establish how this will make printed books and newspapers disappear. The prompt makes a strong prediction about nobody buying print, so consider addressing whether this outcome is certain and acknowledging factors such as preference for physical books or paid online content. That would make the argument more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The sequence is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One of the reason,” “Another reason,” and “In conclusion” help identify each stage. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some of the clear progression associated with stronger organisation. However, the linking is somewhat formulaic, and the second body paragraph moves from free online books to social-media news without clearly connecting these examples to the future of printed books. Use transitions that show the relationship between claims, and develop each paragraph around one central point. Clearer referencing would also help readers track what “them” refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “printed newspaper or books,” “access,” “mobile device,” “social media platform,” and “update.” Some phrases show an attempt to express the topic precisely, such as “access to make research” and “active account online,” but these combinations are not natural in English. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “intereted,” “additon,” and “belive,” alongside repeated use of “online,” “read,” and “news.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your position, but they limit precision and fluency. Build a wider set of accurate collocations for discussing digital media and print readership, and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a conditional structure in “if i don't understand what i read.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, comparatives, and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “One of the reason” should be “One of the reasons,” “reading online give them” needs a plural subject, and “it is more easier” uses an incorrect comparative form. The sentence beginning “For instance” also contains several singular/plural and article problems. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and noun forms, and use a wider range of controlled complex sentences. More accurate punctuation and capitalisation will also improve readability.
