IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is truth that now a days technlogy has became so vast that everything seems to be in hand now. Its not only about reading articles or reading books even everyone can buy a grocery paying their utillty bills and can do almost everything through internet.

Due to the technology everyone is getting easier access to everything since the mobile phones invented the newspaper and other things like books has became very limited it is true that without paying any bill for any specific thing you can get through internet for example most of the newspaper companies has commence thier online websites where they have more reach instead of selling newspaper on the roads most of the people has now prefered those websites to read any newspaper or any articles however it reduce the cost effect of printing the newspapers and books and also reduce the cost of delivery to the indivisuals.Even in the schools most of the kindergartens has prefered to teach children online through alot of websites which has every matterials to teach a children for example such websites has very good learning tools which childrens can easily adopt by teaching them in playful way.

Moreover it can be clearly seen that in the future there will be no any phsyical matterial will be avaliable for the peoples everyone will move to the online availblity of vast news either if its about current affairs or anything else for example the newspaper will only provides the news for the previous day but through online you can have a news for every minute because most of the older age people is always worry about the current cirumstances of the world and the internet is only option to connect them with real news.

In conclusion i belief that in the futuer printed newspaper and books will completely come to the end however it has very low reach now and very less information i agree that without paying online you can have all everything you want.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a position that printed newspapers and books will eventually disappear, and you give relevant reasons, including the convenience of online access and the lower costs of printing and delivery. The examples of newspaper websites and online learning materials help connect your argument to the topic. However, the response only partly addresses the question: it does not clearly examine the claim that people will be able to read everything online without paying, and the discussion focuses more on current internet use than on whether printed books and newspapers will no longer be bought in the future. The final claim that printed media has “very less information” is also not explained. Develop both sides of the statement and clarify how strongly you agree, with more specific support for your predictions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally group related points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “In conclusion” help signal movement between ideas. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because several points are packed into long sentences, and connections between them are not always clear. For example, the discussion moves from newspaper websites to printing costs and then to kindergarten teaching without a clear explanation of how each point supports the central argument. Some linking is repetitive or mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “for example” and “however.” Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then explain and illustrate it with a focused example and clearer referencing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “newspaper companies,” “online websites,” “printing,” “delivery,” and “current affairs,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Phrases such as “the cost effect of printing,” “online availblity,” and “a news for every minute” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors are also noticeable, including “technlogy,” “thier,” and “cirumstances.” Aim to use more precise expressions for digital access, publication costs, and up-to-date reporting, and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms. This would make your argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to use both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “since,” “where,” and “because.” This gives you some variety, but complex sentences are often difficult to control, and frequent errors can make the reader work to understand the relationships between ideas. For example, “since the mobile phones invented” is missing a passive verb form, while “most of the newspaper companies has” has an agreement error. Articles, plurals, and verb forms are also inconsistent, as in “a news” and “books has became.” Several sentences run on without clear punctuation, especially the long sentence beginning “Due to the technology.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide long sentences into shorter units with clear punctuation.
