IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, most people think technology will replace buying printed newspapers or books because that are going to be available online to read rather than investing money on them. I completly agree with this statement due to reasons of saving money and online reading become easy and accessable.
One major reason why I agree is that online availability of such things will be make life much easier. Most of the times books are not available in the market and newspaper reach late or does not arrive on time at home due to which a person finds online alternative much easier as it will be 24/7 present and it saves time too. For instance, an employee who loves reading has avoided buy books and reads online as he thinks reading it pysically would ask for getting books in person which is hard to carry everywhere. As a result, online reading becomes more convenient.
Another important reason is that online reading saves money. There has been varieties in printing these days due to which getting printed books or newspapers becomes costly for those who read regularly. For example, people who are financially not that well avoid printed books and ask their childern to study or read online becuase they free and buying expensive books will be out of their budget too. Therefore, reading online brings more accessablity to individuals.
In conclusion, a thought of books or newspapers being replaced with online reading is due to certain reasons which facilitates them and ease them from investing heavy ammount on purchasing when they can get those materials for free.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that online reading will replace printed materials, and the essay gives two relevant reasons—convenience and lower cost. The examples about an employee who reads online and families choosing online materials also support the topic. However, the response focuses mainly on why online reading is attractive, rather than fully examining the claim that people will be able to read everything online without paying. The idea that printed materials may still be preferred or that not all content is free is not considered, and some support is general or unclear, particularly the point about books being unavailable and newspapers arriving late. Develop the reasons with more precise explanation and address the full scope of the statement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around separate reasons, and a conclusion. Topic sentences such as “One major reason” and “Another important reason” make the progression easy to follow, while “For instance” and “Therefore” signal examples and results. This coherent organisation is a strength. To make the flow more flexible and polished, reduce reliance on formulaic transitions and clarify links within sentences. For example, the connection between books being unavailable and online reading being easier could be explained more directly. The conclusion also repeats the main idea without drawing the two reasons together. More precise referencing and smoother links between claims and examples would strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main points, including “online availability,” “printed books,” “financially,” and “convenient.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, collocation, word-form, and spelling errors reduce precision. Examples include “investing money on them,” “varieties in printing,” “reading it pysically,” and “brings more accessablity.” Some expressions, such as “24/7 present” and “heavy ammount,” are also unnatural or misspelled. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your overall argument, but they make it less fluent. Build a bank of accurate collocations for cost, access, and convenience, and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which,” and “as.” The overall meaning is generally clear, but some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “will be make life much easier” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “newspaper reach late or does not arrive” has inconsistent agreement. In “online reading become easy,” the verb form also needs adjustment. Several long sentences combine multiple ideas, making these errors more noticeable. Aim to keep the complex structures you attempt, but check subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and divide sentences when the relationships between ideas become difficult to control.
