IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people claim that nobody will have the need for newspapers or books because they will be able to access everything online without paying. I think books will become less relevant but people will still have use for them. So i mostly agree with this statement.
Internet has made everything more accessible to everyone. Now, everyone from all around the world can read any book or read about news from anywhere around the world. You just need a phone or computer to access them which everyone already has in their home. It is also faster to read books or news on the internet since you don't have to physically get the specific book from the store or wait for the newspaper. It is also easier to organize the files in a digital device. For example, if someone has a lot of books they can easily get unorganized or lost but with a digital device you can use a search bar to find the book easily.
On the other hand, books are one of the most peaceful and soothing way one can gain knowledge. It is free from all the extra complications that comes with using a digital device. Mobile phones often have a lot of extra notifications that can distract us. But books don't have this problem. Also we might not have access to the internet all the time which can take away access of all the books and news we have. Having a physical book or paper can solve that problem entirely.
In conclusion, reading books and newspaper online is really convinient and is definitely the future. But physical books won't go extinct either because of its ability to provide knowledge with almost no distraction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you mostly agree that online reading will become dominant, while arguing that printed books will remain useful. You address both sides with relevant reasons, including convenience and searchability online, and fewer distractions and offline access in print. This covers the task, but some points are more fully explained than others. For instance, the digital advantages are illustrated with a specific example about finding a book, whereas the claim that printed books are “peaceful and soothing” is not developed as clearly. The conclusion also focuses on books and newspapers generally without directly resolving whether people will stop buying them because online material is free. Develop that distinction and support each main reason more evenly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present contrasting reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from online convenience to the continuing value of print is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This already shows some effective organisation, but cohesion is occasionally mechanical, particularly through repeated openings such as “It is also” and repeated references to books and devices. Some links between ideas could be made more precise: the point about not always having internet access follows the distraction point, but the relationship between them is not explicitly signalled. Vary transitions and use clearer referencing to make the connections smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “accessible,” “organize,” “notifications,” and “distraction.” These choices communicate the main ideas clearly, and the example of using a “search bar” is suitably specific. There are also some imprecise or unnatural expressions that limit flexibility and precision: “have use for them” is awkward, “get unorganized” does not express the intended idea naturally, and “take away access of” is an inaccurate collocation. Spelling errors such as “convinient” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your argument sound more controlled without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional example (“if someone has a lot of books…”) and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely obscure your meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, however. In “one of the most peaceful and soothing way,” the plural noun should be “ways”; “complications that comes” should use “come” to agree with the plural noun; and “So i mostly agree” needs a capital “I.” The opening also shifts between “nobody” and “they,” which makes the reference less consistent. Review agreement, plurals, and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
