IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Whenever we are having a look in the former days, lack of technology convince everyone to read a newspaper which was really tiresome. However, in the up-coming days it will be easy for people to watch everything on internet without paying, and the consumption of printed newspapers will be diminished. According to my perspective, i am also on the same page with it.

First of all i would heavily like to say that, it will really offers relaxation and convenience to every listener, watching news don't need any extra attention. Online news additionally save our time compared to reading a news paper. For instance, whenever we will in hurry we would not need to set at a specific place to read a newpaper, in the future everyone would be abled to see it online. Moreover, printing newspaer after getting a particular story, it really takes ample of time. Authority is also spending substantial amount of money to alter this trend into modern one, into online newspaper.

Secondly, I would believe that there are also numerous reasons that reading a newspaper is not viable to everyone means illeterate could not be abled to read it, although they would be abled to listen it. Because reading a news paper really required a man should be educated to understand it properly. Despite of it, i would say it also causes a lot of intrications to the reader during reading and an ordinary individual would not be abled to paraphrase it.

In conclusion i would say that, although now there is a trend of printing newspaper but with the passage of time it would be diminished and watching online things would be on peak, because it don't offer sluggishness.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you agree that online access will reduce demand for printed newspapers. You also give relevant reasons, including convenience and the possibility of listening to news, so the response addresses the topic. However, the task asks about both newspapers and books, while your discussion focuses almost entirely on newspapers. Some claims are also unclear or insufficiently explained—for example, the point that online news “don’t need any extra attention” and the claim that printed reading causes “intrications.” Develop the argument by addressing books as well, and explain how free online access might replace printed material, while acknowledging any limits to that change.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “First of all” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify your main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the first body paragraph moves from convenience to time-saving and then to the cost of printing without clearly linking these ideas. Some connectors are mechanical or do not express the intended relationship, such as “Despite of it.” References such as “it” and “this trend” are also not always clear. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, explain it in sequence, and use linking phrases only when their relationship is precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “consumption,” “convenience,” “substantial amount,” and “modern.” However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “newspaper” and “would not be abled,” and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make ideas harder to understand. For example, “intrications” does not clearly convey the difficulty you mean, while “watch everything on internet” is imprecise for reading or accessing news and books online. Spelling errors such as “newpaper,” “illeterate,” and “newspaer” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise vocabulary for print and digital media, and check collocations and spelling when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You try to use both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whenever,” “although,” and “because.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors affect clarity. Examples include “technology convince,” “it will really offers,” “online news additionally save,” and “it don’t offer,” where subject–verb agreement or verb forms are incorrect. Tense and sentence construction are also problematic in “whenever we will in hurry,” while missing or incorrect articles appear in phrases such as “on internet” and “a specific place.” Practise accurate present and future forms, agreement, and article use, then check each sentence for a clear subject and complete verb.
