IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that as technology is growing so rapidly. Therefore, people are more likely to read books online rather than newspaper in the future. I strongly agree with this statement as it is more environment friendly and helps people to save money.
The primary reason why i agree with this statement is Money saving. This is because people can easily find their favourite kind of books online for free without paying any subscription. For example, a person whose hobby is book reading but he cannot have enough resources to buy expensive books so can read books in online platforms. Moreover, online book reading provides another advantage which is listening to books. This is convenient for the people who have no time left for book reading, therefore they can listen books while traveling or doing their tasks. As a result, people find online book reading more convinenet because they can read book anytime and anywhere.
The another significant advantage of online book reading is they are Environment friendly. This is because people can easily download different books instantly and read it anytime. Therefore, there is no need of cutting the trees for making paper, also it can help to save atmosphere. and provides better air condition for people.
To summarize, physical book reading has their own advantages but as technology is evolving at a rapid pace. Therefore, people are moving to online platforms for reading. If we use technology for positive purposes it can be very beneficial for us to saves our money and to preserve our environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that online reading will replace printed books and newspapers, and you give relevant reasons about cost and the environment. The example of someone who enjoys reading but cannot afford books helps illustrate the financial point. However, the response only partly develops the task. It focuses almost entirely on books, with little discussion of newspapers, and it does not directly establish that people will be able to read everything online without paying. The environmental argument is also asserted rather than fully explained, and the listening feature is not clearly connected to whether printed material will disappear. Develop both sides of the statement more fully and explain how each example supports your prediction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a concluding summary. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “As a result,” and “To summarize.” However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “as technology is growing so rapidly. Therefore” splits one idea into an awkward sequence, while “The another significant advantage” begins a paragraph with an inaccurate transition. The environmental paragraph also moves quickly from downloading books to saving the atmosphere without explaining the link. Use fewer formulaic connectors, make the relationship between each claim and its support explicit, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point in a logical sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “subscription,” “download,” “environment friendly,” and “preserve our environment.” There are also attempts to express ideas beyond basic reading, such as “listening to books.” However, the range is limited by repeated phrases such as “online book reading,” “people,” and “books,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate. Examples include “read books in online platforms,” “more convinenet,” and “save atmosphere”; these make parts of the argument less natural or precise. Spelling and word-form errors, including “convinenet,” also reduce control. Build a broader set of accurate expressions for digital access, affordability, and environmental impact, and check spelling and collocations when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including explanations with “because” and a relative clause in “a person whose hobby is book reading.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammar are noticeable. For instance, “It is often argued that as technology is growing so rapidly” is an incomplete construction, and “a person … but he cannot have enough resources … so can read” lacks a clear grammatical link between its clauses. There are also errors in articles, agreement, and punctuation, as in “The another significant advantage” and “therefore …, also it can help … . and provides.” Aim to write complete, controlled sentences, and check clause boundaries, subject–verb agreement, and punctuation, especially when joining several ideas.
