IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In future no one will purchase printed newspaper or books because they'll be able to read everything they want on internet without spending any money. I strongly agree with this statement.
With the development of modern technology and advancement of science many things start to change with time. Techonolgy has replaced many things and will replace more in near future. For example the invention of smartphones has replaced many things such as the need of watches, radios, alarm clocks even though the printed newspapers and magazines. Now a days you can get information about any desired topic online. All you have to do is to search anything you wanna know about on a search engine and with in no time hundreds of articles will appear along with numerous websites providing you with everything you need.
However, the printed newspapers are still used by some people in different countries as well as the printed books. But I believe that in coming days modern technology such as mobile phone, internet and computer will replace these things. You'll no longer have to pay for that stuff. Although there's still time for such advancement to take place but I'm sure it will. This will make more convenient to gain knowledge and will save us a lot of time and effort. Internet has made our world a global village. With internet you can do many things without going anywhere you can get any sort of knowledge you want on google and you can also get expet's opinion on youtube.
To conclude, I would say that I think internet will definitely replace printed newspapers and books in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons, including the convenience of searching online and the possibility that technology will replace printed media. However, the response addresses the claim only partly: it does not examine the important qualification that everything will be available online without payment. The examples about smartphones replacing watches and radios support technological change, but do not establish that books and newspapers will become free or disappear. The point that printed media are still used is acknowledged but not explored. Develop both the prediction and the free-access aspect with specific explanation or examples, and consider a counterargument before reaching your conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs discuss technology and printed media, and a conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and transitions such as “However” and “To conclude” help signal the direction of the essay. At times, though, the progression within paragraphs is loose: the examples of watches, radios and alarm clocks lead into online searching without clearly showing how they prove the future of printed books and newspapers. Repeated references to the internet and technology also make the development feel somewhat circular. Use clearer links between each claim and its supporting example, and make references such as “these things” more precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including topic-related terms such as “printed newspapers,” “search engine,” “articles,” and “global village.” There are also attempts at broader phrasing, for example “advancement of science” and “gain knowledge.” However, the range is limited by repeated use of general words such as “things,” “stuff,” and “many,” and some expressions are imprecise or informal for an academic essay, including “wanna know” and “that stuff.” Spelling errors such as “Techonolgy” and “expet's” are noticeable, while “expert’s opinion” would be the correct form. Aim for more precise terms for digital access, publication, and cost, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You communicate your main meaning, and the response includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, such as “Although there’s still time for such advancement to take place but I’m sure it will.” However, control is uneven, particularly in complex sentences and sentence boundaries. That example incorrectly combines “although” with “but”; use one or the other. Other issues include “In future no one will purchase printed newspaper or books,” where articles and plural forms are needed, and “With internet you can do many things without going anywhere you can get…,” which joins two independent clauses without suitable punctuation or a connector. Practise accurate articles, agreement, and punctuation while varying sentence patterns.
