IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Digitalization has been increased significantly in every aspect of our life. It is often argued that in near future, printed newspaper or books will be of no use as digital copies would be available online and could be accessible without paying a penny. I strongly agree with this statement because it could save individual's time and readers could avail the advantages of using technological features like searching within the page or whole book, which is difficult to do with printed newspapers or books.
People can save a lot of time and their efforts by reading articles online conveniently. One could spend his/her time and efforts on something else rather than wasting by visiting a crowded store to just buy a book or newspaper that is available on interent. For example, an individual can download e-book in his/her mobile phone within seconds and could start reading instantly without wasting time.
Another main reason of reading books or newspaper online is the use of features like searching, highlighting a word or a sentence, and make the text large by zooming in so that it could be easy to read. While reading online, one could easily pick up where he/she left off by using bookmark feature. For instance, If someone is reading newspaper and wants to know about specific news, he or she could easily search for that keyword and directly navigate to that part of the news rather than just go through each section of a page.
In conclusion, although there are some disadvantages of online reading as well like having strain on the eyes if red for too long but the advantages clearly outweighs the disadvantages and I completely agree that the era of printed newspaper or books will disappear s

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly agree that printed newspapers and books will disappear, and you support this with convenience and digital reading features. These are relevant reasons, and the examples of downloading an e-book and searching for a news item help illustrate them. The response therefore addresses the task and shows some development. However, the claim that online material will be available without payment is not examined, even though it is central to the prompt. The discussion also focuses mainly on convenience and features; the point about eye strain appears only briefly in the conclusion. To strengthen the response, address the free-access claim directly and develop the counterpoint before explaining why your position still holds.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from saving time to using digital features is logical, and examples are placed alongside the ideas they support. Linking phrases such as “Another main reason,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” make the organisation easy to follow. To make cohesion more flexible, avoid relying so heavily on explicit signposting and use clearer links between claims and examples. The conclusion introduces eye strain without developing it earlier, so either discuss this limitation in a body paragraph or omit it. The final sentence also ends abruptly, which weakens the sense of closure.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “digital copies,” “technological features,” “highlighting,” “bookmark,” and “navigate.” These terms help explain the practical benefits of online reading, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “Digitalization has been increased,” “avail the advantages,” and “make the text large.” There are also spelling errors, including “interent” and “red” for “read.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for more idiomatic combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “has increased,” “benefit from,” and “enlarge the text.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a reason clause with “because,” a contrast introduced by “although,” and conditional phrasing such as “if someone is reading.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “printed newspaper or books” needs consistent plural forms, and “the advantages clearly outweighs” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “rather than wasting by visiting,” the structure is incomplete; a clearer form would be “rather than waste time visiting.” The conclusion also contains an unfinished final phrase. Review agreement, articles, and parallel structures, and proofread sentence endings. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
