IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the future, no-one will buy printed newspapers or books, because they will get everything online without paying. In my opinion, it is a positive thing, and i strongly agree with this statement. Because so much comfort has been provided by mobile phones,as it saves our efforts, time, and money to buy books and newspaper.
In this modern era, mobile phone has become the one of the most important need for our daily life. For example to communicate with each other,to know what is happeing around the world we watch news online in the mobile phones. It does not need specific location, like you are traveling, chilling at the bar or caffe, or you are in a resturant, it can be used at any place just open the phone, connect to the internet and watch anything according to your need.
Talking about time and money, unlike buying new books or dozens of newspapers with heavy cost, all such material is present on internet and can be accessed free of cost, and it also saves time to find books, or find the required sections on the newspaper insted, you just need to search the required things on the internet, and download it or read online.
As a matter fact, online access of books and other reading material has became so easy plus free of cost, that it save our efforts time and money and in the upcomming time, all these things will be accessed digitally with the help of mobile phones, while use of books and other reading material will be neglected.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear position in favour of the prediction, and your points about convenience, saving time and money, and easy access to online material are relevant. The examples of reading news while travelling or at a café help illustrate convenience. However, the response addresses the issue only partially: it mainly explains why digital reading is useful, without considering whether people will still buy printed books or newspapers, or whether online content will in fact remain free. Several claims are asserted rather than developed. The response is also 248 words, below the 250-word minimum; the nine words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop a counterpoint and explain your reasons with more specific support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph. The ideas generally follow a sensible order, moving from convenience to cost and access. However, progression is limited because the paragraphs repeat similar claims about saving time, effort, and money, rather than building a fuller argument. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “Talking about time and money,” and “As a matter fact” signal connections, but some are awkward or do not clearly show how the point develops. The long second paragraph also combines several examples and instructions in one sentence, making the flow harder to follow. Give each paragraph one distinct main idea and use clearer references between claims and examples.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “accessed free of cost,” “required sections,” and “digitally.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or unnatural, such as “all such material is present on internet” and “it save our efforts time and money.” Spelling errors, including “happeing,” “resturant,” “insted,” and “upcomming,” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Some word choices also make the meaning less precise: “chilling at the bar” is informal for this essay, while “one of the most important need” does not express the intended idea naturally. Aim for more precise academic collocations and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the overall meaning is usually understandable. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors affect accuracy. For example, “Because so much comfort has been provided…” is a sentence fragment, while “mobile phone has become the one of the most important need” has problems with articles, number, and agreement. In “it save our efforts time and money,” the verb form and sentence structure are incorrect. There are also run-on sentences and missing spaces after punctuation, particularly in the paragraph beginning “In this modern era.” Practise forming complete sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms, and separating independent clauses with appropriate punctuation.
