IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
it is often arged that in the upcoming years nobody will purchase pieces of work such as newspapers or books because they will be able to read all what you desire online without need to buy them . I completely agree with this view because it is cheape than buy it and you have access to all types of books online
the main reason why i agree is that buying a book or a newpaper is become expanssive this is because of the high cost of printing for example newpaper is something that we should buy everyday to know all the daily new information so it is a waste of money. However brows it online will be accesible all time without need to to pay for it or pay just little to get a book you want from internet
another important reason is that some books it is hard to find them because they are a limited edition but they are everytime accessible online for instance, historic books the most older ones are already hard to find in all lebruary, they are just exposed on the mesum of art as result people who want to read them need to find them first then buy them expanssively and for some books it is impossible to buy , you can just rate them.As result online you can read everything they want without paying a high cost
in conclusion i completely agree that in the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books mainly because they will be access online all what you need and must be oblgated to waste a lot of money by buying them.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you completely agree that online access will reduce purchases of printed books and newspapers. You give two relevant reasons—cost and the difficulty of finding older or limited-edition books—and include examples such as daily newspapers and historic books. However, the response only partially develops the task. The claim that online reading is free is not consistently supported, since you also mention paying a small amount for a book, and the prediction that nobody will buy printed material is not examined or qualified. The example about historic books is difficult to follow, so its relevance is weakened. Develop each reason with clearer explanation and address the absolute claim in the prompt more directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. Connectors such as “the main reason,” “another important reason,” and “in conclusion” help signal this organisation. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. In the second body paragraph, the discussion moves from limited editions to historic books, museums, buying, and rating them without clear links. Some connections are also repetitive, particularly “as result” and repeated references to online access. Use clearer topic sentences and arrange each example in a simple sequence: claim, explanation, then example. More precise referencing would also help readers identify what “them” and “they” refer to.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “printed newspapers,” “limited edition,” “historic books,” and “accessible online.” These choices show an attempt to discuss more than just the basic idea of reading online. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response harder to understand, such as “expanssive,” “lebruary,” and “mesum.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “all the daily new information” and “rate them.” Aim to learn accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. Choosing natural collocations—for example, how people access or obtain books—will make your argument clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason-and-example structure beginning “this is because,” and a contrast introduced by “However.” This gives the response some variety, but control is inconsistent: complex sentences often contain several errors, and these can make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “buying a book or a newpaper is become” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “people who want to read them need to find them first then buy them” needs clearer clause punctuation and structure. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea at a time, then add subordinate clauses and check verb forms and punctuation.
