IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is true that in this globalised world everything is based on computer like newspaper and books. In future individuals will read books and newspaper on internet than buy printed books. I completely agree with this view.
To begin with, at present e-learning and technology has become more common in our daily life compared than past. For example, every single thing is depend on computer and internet. Also, technology creats huge opportunities for us like we has unlimited access for reading books in online. As a result, people show more interested on online based reading rather than offline and printed reading. In addition, online reading is more reasonable than printed reading. For example, individuals can read any types of books without paying in online. As a result, few developed country choose online based education rather than printed and offline education.
Another possible reason is that people has the opportunities for reading their prefered books in their own environment. For example, people can read on their own room or own place. As a result, the learning experience will be more comfortable. Also, the way technology rising day by day in future the printed books and newspaper will be no longer in existence. This incident will be happen just only for internet and computer.
In conclusion, in future the trend of reading newspaper and books will be change and the online reading will be increased.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: “I completely agree,” and the response stays focused on online reading. You give relevant reasons, including convenience, access to books and the possibility of reading without paying. However, the task is only partially addressed because these points are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with specific evidence. The claim that “few developed country choose online based education” is unclear and does not directly establish that printed newspapers and books will disappear. The conclusion also predicts a change without summarising the reasoning. The response is 17 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your ideas. Explain why free online access will continue and consider whether printed materials might still appeal to some readers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs broadly group related reasons, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “In addition” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the direction. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, with “For example” and “As a result” repeatedly introducing points that are not always clearly connected. For instance, the move from online reading being comfortable to printed books becoming extinct needs a clearer explanation. Some references are also vague, such as “This incident,” which makes the link to the previous sentence less precise. Build each paragraph around one main claim, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “e-learning,” “technology,” “unlimited access” and “online reading.” There are also attempts to use more formal expressions, such as “globalised world” and “learning experience.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Phrases such as “more interested on online based reading,” “in online” and “the way technology rising” are awkward or unclear, while “creats” and “prefered” are misspelled. Repetition of “online,” “books” and “reading” also restricts variety. Practise common collocations for digital publishing and education, and check spelling and word forms when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, using connectors such as “because,” “as a result” and “rather than.” This shows some effort to express relationships between ideas, but the range remains limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making sentences difficult to interpret. Examples include “technology has become more common … compared than past,” “every single thing is depend,” and “people has the opportunities.” The sentence “Also, the way technology rising day by day in future…” is incomplete in its structure, and “This incident will be happen” uses an incorrect verb form. Focus on subject–verb agreement, verb forms and complete sentence patterns. After drafting, check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb.
