IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

newspapers and the books was the means of the transpotation of the news , education and entertainment few centuries back .

i disagree with the statement in upcoming future there will be less production of the news and books but they will still hold a value which will not be less as time pass by

in comtemporay society people still consider the books and newspaper medium of entertaiment , means of joyness, education . there is nothing free in world people who read the new or the books online still paying the writer but the payment method is different in propespect to few centuries back where people directly pay money to get the newspaper from shop and any store avaliable near to area as for now people are in fog by thinking they are reading aur enjoying the books for free but they paying by watching the advertisiment which we call ad these ads were sponsred by the company and pays the website where reader or watcher of news. its a new way of marketing and some of the sites where people still spend money to read or watch news . in upcoming future there is possiblity that the newspaper or books maybe rarely get printed and physically avaliable but the enojyer still have to pay the price of enterainment . people will still buy the books in upcoming era beacuse of screen timinng becuase they are more focused on screen and harmful rays of electronic devices do harm their eye sight morever they are too in depth where they forget to take break which ultimatly have devasting effect on eyesights and people as of now develop rare eye condition beacuse of usage of electronic media so as more people become consicious about the harmful effect of this mode of entertainment . so as of now people are now developing the mentality reverting back to era where they enjoy the books and newspsaper physically by perchasing the books .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you disagree that printed books and newspapers will disappear, and you address the claim that online reading is free by explaining that advertising funds websites. This is relevant and gives the response a sound central argument. The discussion of screen use and eye health also supports the case for print, although it is asserted broadly and would be stronger with a specific explanation or example. Some points are less fully developed than others, and the essay does not explore other reasons people may continue to buy print, such as convenience, collecting, or reading preferences. To strengthen the response further, develop each main reason with a clear example and maintain a precise distinction between buying printed material and paying indirectly for online content.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an identifiable progression: it states disagreement, discusses online advertising, and then gives screen-related reasons for retaining print. However, the ideas are presented in one very long paragraph, so the reader has little help distinguishing the main points or following their development. Linking phrases such as “as for now,” “morever,” and “so as of now” are repeated or used awkwardly, and some references are unclear—for example, “they paying by watching” does not clearly identify who pays whom. Organise the essay into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for the two main arguments, and a conclusion. Use a smaller range of accurate transitions and make links between claims explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “advertisement,” “marketing,” “physically available,” and “harmful effects,” and the reader can generally identify your intended ideas. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “books,” and “future,” while several inaccurate word choices or forms make meaning less clear. Examples include “means of joyness,” “in fog,” and “enjoyer”; these are not natural expressions in this context. Spelling errors such as “comtemporay,” “entertaiment,” and “advertisiment” are also noticeable. Build a bank of accurate topic collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help express your arguments without relying on repeated wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas in extended sentences, including the explanation of how advertising supports online news, but these sentences are often difficult to follow because of errors in sentence structure and punctuation. For example, “there is nothing free in world people who read…” joins separate ideas without appropriate punctuation, and “they paying by watching” is missing an auxiliary verb. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, and verb forms, as in “the books was” and “as time pass by.” Sentence boundaries are especially important: divide long chains of clauses into shorter, complete sentences, then check subject–verb agreement and verb forms. This will make your reasoning clearer while allowing you to retain some complex structures.
