IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the future nobody will purchase printed newspapers or books because they will able to read everything they desire online without paying. I agree with this Idea because it will help people to save their time and money. However, I believe that some people may do not like to read newspaper online.

Nowadays people are too busy and lazy. This is because if they need to read newspaper or books, they will access online to read newspaper or books that they like instead of going a market to buy printed newspapers and books. Besides, many people face financial crisis. For those people to buy newspapers or books become like a big burden. However, when they get free access online to read newspapers and books, they will choose online rather than reading printed newspapers or books. For example, in many developed countries citizens have free access online to read newspaper and books. As a result, these countries individuals read newspapers or books online rather than printed newspaper or books.

However, many pepole may dislike to read newspaper or books online. This is because while reading newspapers they can get a lot of challenges to pay attention. Firstly, they can feel exhusted to look at screen for a long time. Secondly, many individuals can lose their attention while reading newspaper or books in online by getting massage or notification. When they get massge or notification, they will go to check who massed them, which would reduce their intention and patient to come back agine f.

In conclusion, altough I argue that everybody will like read newspapres or books online rathe than printed newspapers or books, some individuals may face difficulties to read newspapers or books online.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is generally clear: you agree that free online access will reduce demand for printed material, while acknowledging that some readers may prefer print. The first body paragraph gives relevant reasons—convenience and cost—and the second explains possible difficulties with screens and notifications. However, the response does not fully develop the claim that nobody will buy printed newspapers or books. The opening says you agree, but the conclusion shifts to saying that “everybody will like” reading online, which is stronger and less qualified than your discussion supports. The examples about developed countries are also broad and not explained in detail. Clarify the extent of your agreement and develop the counterargument before drawing a balanced conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. “However,” “Besides,” and “For example” help signal relationships between ideas, so the overall arrangement is understandable. Some links are mechanical or repetitive, though: “newspapers or books” appears repeatedly, and several sentences begin with “This is because.” The progression within the second body paragraph is less controlled, particularly where the discussion moves from screen fatigue to notifications and then ends abruptly with “come back agine f.” The conclusion also repeats the main contrast rather than clearly resolving it. Use clearer referencing, vary linking expressions, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “free access,” “financial crisis,” “attention,” and “notification.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “newspapers or books” and “read online.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “going a market,” “lose their attention,” and “reduce their intention and patient.” Spelling errors—including “pepole,” “exhusted,” and “massge”—also make the writing less precise. Aim to use a wider range of natural expressions for convenience, cost, and reading habits, and check spelling carefully. More accurate collocations would make your argument easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional forms such as “when they get free access online” and a relative clause in “the newspapers or books that they like.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “they will able to read” (missing “be”), “some people may do not like” (incorrect modal construction), and “For those people to buy newspapers or books become” (faulty sentence structure and agreement). There are also problems with articles and plurals, as in “read newspaper,” and the final body sentence is incomplete. Practise accurate modal patterns, subject–verb agreement, and complete sentence construction before adding more complex structures.
