IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's rapidly changing world, books and newspaper loose their importance because of digital world as this has become a matter of considerable debate. Some people believe that no one will use traditional newspaper and books as they would be replaced by e-books. I strongly agree with this view, as traditional newspaper has been a part of culture but due to advent in technology, it has changed the way people read as a result they prefer to read online because it is more convenient and easy to read which makes this approach more beneficial.
One of the main reasons why, e-books are emerging in terms of people's choice of reading is because it is portable and convenient to ready anywhere and anytime. This is because e-books can be read accessed through wide range of electronic gadets such as mobilephones, tablets and computers. As a result, this has become the primary source of reading books and news online rather than carrying newspaper or a book. For example, many authorised news articles are published online, which is advantageous for people to read if they are travelling or does not have a source of newspaper. Another benefit is that, production of newspaper involves cutting of trees and producing paper which is a leanthy process and results in environmental damage. Therefore, it is evident that e-books fits to the needs of the people also it is eco-friendly.
Moreover, e-books are free for all, as they do not require any subscriptions unlike newspaper which are usually sold. Furthermore, people can find huge collections of e-books online as it serves as an online library for readers Although in traditional libraries sometimes it will be difficult to find certain books or they might have sold out. For example, some books are printed in limited quantity, if it gets exhausted it is difficult to produce again.
In conclusion, despite traditional newpapers are preferred choice of people, they are usually harmful for nature if prodcued in a large quantity. I believe that e-books are convenient and easy to read. This is because it is portable and easy to access.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that online reading will replace printed books and newspapers, and you give relevant reasons, including convenience, portability, and reduced paper use. The examples of reading on phones and tablets and accessing news while travelling help explain your view. However, the task’s claim that people will be able to read everything online without paying is not fully examined. You state that e-books are free, but do not consider whether all books and news will actually be available without charge. The point about limited print runs is also less directly connected to future replacement. Develop these aspects and explain the limits or conditions of your prediction to address all parts more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion, and the main ideas generally progress from convenience to environmental benefits and cost. Linking expressions such as “As a result,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” help signal this progression. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, people can find huge collections” runs into “Although in traditional libraries…” without clear punctuation or a complete contrast, making the relationship between the ideas difficult to follow. The conclusion also repeats convenience and portability rather than drawing together the main reasons. Use clearer transitions between contrasting points and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “portable,” “convenient,” “subscriptions,” “environmental damage,” and “limited quantity.” These choices communicate the central ideas, and some less common expressions show an attempt to be precise. However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable: “newspaper loose their importance,” “convenient to ready,” “leanthy process,” and “e-books fits” weaken fluency and sometimes make the intended meaning less immediate. There is also repetition of “easy,” “convenient,” and “e-books.” Aim for more natural combinations, such as “lose their importance,” “read conveniently,” and “a lengthy process,” and proofread spelling. Vary repeated terms with accurate alternatives such as “digital publications” or “online reading.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as,” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually understandable. Some grammatical errors remain in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries. For example, “e-books fits” should have a plural verb, while “newspaper has been a part of culture” needs more accurate number and article use. In “people … does not have,” the verb does not agree with its plural subject. The sentence beginning “Although in traditional libraries” is also incomplete as written, and several long sentences would benefit from clearer punctuation. Work on checking subject–verb agreement and making sure subordinate clauses are attached to complete sentences; this will improve accuracy while preserving your range.
