IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the future, printed newspapers and books may become less popular because of people will be able to access same information online completely free. I completely agree with this statement that reduction in reading of newspapers and books because online platform provides a easy understanding and more convenient and allow people to read without spending money
The main reason I hold this view is that online platforms provide free access to the information. People can read the newspapers, books and articles on the internet without spending money. This helps them to save money and access a wide range of information easily. For example, instead of buying a regular newspaper, People can read the latest news on website in free of cost. Therefore, online platforms may reduce the demand of printed newspapers and books in the future
Another reason why I agree with this is that online platforms present information in a very attractive and understandable. Unlike printed newspapers and books, digital platforms provide can include the animation and images and graphics to explain in a very understandable. This may help to understand the complex matters without any problem. For example, providing the news with the video format we can understand the news a clarity most of the news shown on the television channel. Therefore, online platforms may become more popular than the printed materials in the future
In conclusion, I completely agree with the statement that printed newspapers and books may become less popular in the future because online platforms provide free access to read and make more convenient to understand and makes the information more engaging through videos, images, and graphs

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you completely agree that free online access will reduce demand for printed newspapers and books. You give two relevant reasons—saving money and making information more engaging through visual content—and include examples such as reading news on a website and using videos or images. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The point about online content being easier to understand is asserted rather than explained, and the examples do not fully show why people would stop buying printed books as well as newspapers. To strengthen the response, explain the effects of each reason in more detail and address the absolute claim that nobody will buy printed material, perhaps by considering whether some readers may still prefer physical copies.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “The main reason,” “Another reason,” and “Therefore.” However, these transitions are somewhat mechanical, and the conclusion repeats the introduction and body points rather than drawing them together. Some sentences within the body paragraphs are difficult to connect smoothly, particularly the explanation and example about video news. Use clearer links between each claim, explanation, and example, and vary your transitions so the progression feels more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “free access,” “wide range of information,” “digital platforms,” and “printed materials.” These choices communicate the central ideas, but the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise. For example, “in a very attractive and understandable” and “understand the news a clarity” do not express your meaning naturally, while “in free of cost” is an awkward collocation. Repeated use of “online platforms” and “understand” also limits flexibility. Build a more precise range for discussing access, convenience, and reader preferences, and check that phrases sound natural in context. More accurate collocations would make your argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a comparison introduced by “Unlike.” The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. For instance, “because of people will be able to access” uses an incorrect structure, and “digital platforms provide can include” has an unnecessary verb. There are also problems with articles and sentence construction in “a easy understanding” and “This may help to understand the complex matters.” Practise building complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check articles and verb patterns when editing.
