IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is widely acknowledged that in the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. Although there are compelling arguements on both side, I partly agree with the given statement primarily because people have busy schedule and want modern lifestyle.
The primary reason for my agreement with the given statement is that people have busy schedule. In particular, people don't have enough time to read newspapers and books because of their busy schedule. For instance, a specific example of this can be seen in the survey conducted in the UK which states that the sales of the newpapers had dropped drastically as people consider mobile phones a better option.
Equally significant is the fact that people nowadays want a modern and fast lifestyle. In other words, people prefer not to read books and newpapers for informations as they can get that through their mobiles instantly . A pertinent example of this can be seen in the survey conducted in Canada last year which states that librarys are likely to be seen empty nowadays as people consider books time consuming.
However, I shortly disagree with the given statement mainly because some people prefer to read books . To elaborate it, books are a great source of informations and are a better source for specific learning but mobile phones only shares a small amount of details
In the conclusion, I partly agree that in future people will consider to read online rather than reading books and newspapers because of their busy schedule and the modern lifestyle; however, i shortly disagree with the statement mainly because books are great source of specific learning.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address the question and state a consistent, qualified position: you “partly agree,” while recognising that some people still prefer printed books. The two supporting points—busy schedules and a preference for a faster lifestyle—are relevant, and the survey examples give them some support. However, the discussion focuses mainly on why people may choose digital media, rather than directly examining the claim that everything will be available online without payment. The counterargument about books being useful for specific learning is also brief and would benefit from explanation or an example. Develop this side more fully and clarify how free online access affects your prediction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your position, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “In particular,” “Equally significant,” and “However” help signal the direction of the discussion, and the conclusion returns to your qualified view. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. To make progression more effective, ensure each paragraph develops one central point rather than repeating it: “busy schedule” appears several times in the first body paragraph. The counterargument paragraph also needs a clearer connection between its claim and supporting explanation, and the conclusion could synthesise the reasons more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “compelling arguments,” “modern lifestyle,” “instantly,” and “specific learning.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice errors, such as “arguements,” “newpapers,” “informations,” and “librarys.” Several phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, including “busy schedule” when referring to people generally and “a small amount of details.” Aim for accurate collocations and forms, and vary repeated words such as “books,” “people,” and “schedule.” More precise language for digital access and print-media sales would strengthen the discussion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although there are compelling arguments…” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “people have busy schedule” needs an article or plural form, “mobile phones only shares” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “books are great source” needs an article. The final counterargument sentence also lacks a full stop, while spacing before punctuation is inconsistent. Review articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, then proofread carefully. Greater accuracy in these areas would make your varied sentence structures easier to follow.
