IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is undeniable that technology has revolutionised the way people access information. Nowadays, a growing number of individuals prefer reading newspapers and books online rather than purchasing printed copies. Although digital platforms offer convenience and easy access to information, I largely disagree with the statement that printed materials will disappear completely in the future.
There are several compelling reasons people countinue purchase offline book . Firstly, reading books can make reader feel more comfortable and concertated. On the other hand, digital medium can make impact on mind which will cause eye strain. Secondly, reading in offline mode can make people life flexible while, making notes and highlighting important points and making personal hand written collection of data. For instance, students often prefer physical textbooks because they can easily mark important points and revise their lessons without relying on electronic devices.
Another significant factor is that online material is not always free, people have to pay for premiums and another subscriptions to access to
the wide range of data. Moreover, it is difficult for some to people to hold that data for a while in there access as affordability and availability is limit in one's life and area. So, other then paying for high amount of money in recharges it is easy to shift towards offline mode. Consequently, offline mode is low in cost.
On the way to conclusion, although online platforms are more convenient and easy to access to information, yet traditional modes are more beneficial due to affordivility and more relaxing

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you “largely disagree” that printed materials will disappear, and the response gives relevant reasons, including comfort, note-taking, and the cost of online subscriptions. The textbook example helps illustrate the practical value of print. However, the discussion addresses the claim that people will read online “without paying” less fully: you mention subscriptions, but do not clearly explain whether free online access will nevertheless replace purchases. Some points are also under-developed or unclear, particularly the claim that offline reading makes life “flexible” and the affordability argument. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and connect it directly to why printed books and newspapers will continue to be bought.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a concluding sentence returns to the comparison between online and traditional formats. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Moreover” help readers follow the main points. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. For example, “On the other hand” does not clearly signal the relationship between comfort and eye strain, while “So, other then paying…” is difficult to follow as a conclusion to the affordability point. The final paragraph is also very brief and does not fully synthesise the argument. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and develop the conclusion to restate your main reasons.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “digital platforms,” “printed copies,” “eye strain,” “subscriptions,” and “highlighting important points.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to express specific ideas. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations reduce precision: “countinue purchase,” “concertated,” “premiums,” and “affordivility” are problematic, while “offline mode” is repeated and sounds unnatural in places. Expressions such as “hold that data for a while in there access” are difficult to interpret. Aim for more natural combinations such as “continue to buy printed books,” “concentrate,” and “access digital content,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although digital platforms offer convenience…”) and a reason clause beginning “because” in the example about students. The main ideas are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors make parts of the argument difficult to follow. Examples include missing or incorrect articles and verb forms in “There are several compelling reasons people countinue purchase offline book,” and the sentence “Moreover, it is difficult for some to people to hold that data…” has an unclear structure. There are also problems with prepositions and punctuation, as in “access to the wide range” and “while, making notes.” Practise complete clause structures, verb patterns, and sentence punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
