IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is undeniable that newspaper fives various information about current happening of all across the globe. To this regard, nobody will buy printed newspapers or books in upcoming years because they will able to read everything online according to their taste without paying. I agree to large extent with this notion which will be outlined in forthcoming paragraphs with a logical conclusion.
To commence with, there are various advantages of online books. The first and formost is that these books does not contain space at home because people can get new books or newspapers online without paying. Furthermore, books or newspapers are cost efficiency because famous books are very expensive, so people cannot afford it in this future. People can easily read this new books which they want.
Moreover, quality of online books is better than printed books. To explain it more, there is a misprint and offline or paper books and people cannot understand easily, whereas an online people can easily read newspaper or book.
Beside this, there are some drawbacks of this statement. The prime one is that older people is a disadvantage. To clarify it more, people cannot read online newspaper because they are not touch with it. Moreover, they do not feel comfortable by reading on online because they want to feel paper in their hands. Even though people who suffer from weak eyesight they cannot read books or newspaper. Also, as a result, there is a pain in head and water comes from ice due to weak eyesight.
In conclusion, although there are some merits of online books such as cost efficiency, better quality and many others. However, the drawsbacks of this notion cannot be neglected at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You state a clear general position—“I agree to large extent”—and give reasons both for online reading and against the prediction, including convenience, cost, older readers’ preferences, and eyesight concerns. This shows an attempt to address the question. However, the response only partly develops the central claim that people will stop buying printed books and newspapers: several points are asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of “better quality” is unclear. The conclusion lists advantages and drawbacks but does not clearly restate how strongly you agree or explain which side is more persuasive. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a specific example and make your final position consistent and explicit throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a paragraph supporting online reading, a paragraph presenting drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “To commence with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” help signal these stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the point about expensive books shifts quickly to affordability, and the explanation of eyesight problems is unclear. Some linking expressions are mechanical or do not show the relationship accurately, such as “Beside this” and “Also, as a result.” The conclusion’s “although … However” construction also creates an awkward connection. Group related ideas more clearly and use simpler, precise links between claim, explanation, and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “current happening,” “printed newspapers,” “cost efficiency,” “misprint,” and “weak eyesight.” This gives the response some relevant language, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate enough to make meaning unclear. For example, “newspaper fives various information” and “water comes from ice” do not communicate the intended ideas, while “people are not touch with it” appears to mean that older people are unfamiliar with online reading. Spelling errors such as “formost” and “drawsbacks” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of natural phrases for discussing digital access, print media, and eye strain, and check that each expression conveys your intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You use both simple statements and some attempts at longer structures, including a contrast with “whereas” and a concession beginning “although.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns as well as in more complex attempts. Examples include “these books does not contain space,” “people cannot afford it in this future,” and “older people is a disadvantage.” Articles, agreement, and sentence construction also cause problems in “an online people can easily read” and in the final sentence, where “although” is followed by “However.” These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build longer sentences from correct simple clauses before adding connectors.
