IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Undoubtedly, the technology is at peak in recent years and it will develop more in the upcoming years. However, it is argued that nobody will purchase newspaper or written books because individuals will be able to read everything online for free without paying any debt. I partially agree with this statementand i will discuss this in forthcoming paragraphs.
To commence with, the main reason to agree with this statement is that youngsters in recent years are more connected to their smartphones. Therefore, in the future they will absolutely favour reading online without paying any amount of money. In other words, youngsters these days are more advanced than elders because they are born in the technological generation, while they can use online technology more precisely. Consequently, young kids are more aware of the internet and they will definetely prefer reading online and save their money in the upcoming years and the usage of newspaper and books will be declined due to the developing technology.
However, developing technology does not mean that nobody will purchase newspaper and books in the future. Whereas written words plays a crucial role in an individuals life. To explain, some individuals prefer reading the books becuase they want to feel the book or the paper in their hand. Furthermore, the letters on the online technology are quiet small as comparing to the real books and newspaper. Whereas they can harm individuals eyesight, but reading written words are more beneficial. As a result, newspaper and books are going to stay remain in the future too and will be used by bookworms.
To encapsulate, as far as i am concerned, books and newspapers will not be forgotten in the future because the world have different types of people with distinct choice and minset. Although, technology is developed very much in recent year, but books are still preferred by individuals. I think that the use of written words will be reduced in the future. Nevertheless, it is not going to extinct.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partially agree that online reading will reduce demand for printed material, but you expect books and newspapers to remain. You address both sides and give relevant reasons, including young people’s familiarity with smartphones and some readers’ preference for holding a physical book. However, the support is uneven. The point about young people is repeated in several forms, while the claim that screens harm eyesight and printed reading is more beneficial is asserted rather than explained or qualified. The conclusion also introduces the idea of people having different preferences without developing it. To strengthen the response, explain each main reason with a specific consequence or example and make the extent of your agreement more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps the reader follow your position, and transitions such as “However” and “To encapsulate” signal changes in direction. Overall progression is understandable, but some linking is mechanical or unclear. For example, “Whereas written words plays a crucial role” is a fragment after “However,” and the later “Whereas they can harm…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. The first body paragraph also repeats the idea that young people will choose online reading, rather than moving through distinct supporting points. Use complete sentences, clearer references, and a more deliberate sequence of claim, explanation and example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “technological generation,” “individuals’ eyesight,” “distinct choice” and “bookworms,” so the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “To commence with” and “as far as I am concerned.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “without paying any debt” does not express the intended idea, “the technology is at peak” is awkward, and “stay remain” is redundant. Spelling errors such as “definetely,” “becuase” and “minset” also detract from control. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling; prefer straightforward, accurate wording over formal phrases that do not fit the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while” and “although,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with agreement, articles, sentence boundaries and verb forms. For instance, “written words plays” should use a plural verb, while “the world have” needs a singular verb. “Whereas written words plays…” is not a complete sentence, and “Although, technology is developed very much…, but…” combines contrasting structures incorrectly. There are also missing or inconsistent capital letters for “I.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and check each sentence for a clear subject and main verb; this will make your varied structures more controlled.
