Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You introduce the topic and state a position, but the response does not fully answer the question. The prompt asks whether printed newspapers and books will disappear because people can read everything online for free; your opening instead says online reading is “more affordable and easy to use,” without clearly explaining whether you agree that nobody will buy printed material. The point about links and accessing news on a phone or computer is relevant, but it is only briefly illustrated, and the Facebook example is left unfinished. The response is also substantially below the required 250 words, so there is not enough development of reasons, examples, or a conclusion. Address both printed books and newspapers and explain your position with developed support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph gives a view, followed by a paragraph beginning “Initially” that introduces an advantage of online reading. The ideas within that paragraph are broadly related, moving from links to access on devices. However, the response ends abruptly at “people can,” so there is no completed example, concluding paragraph, or overall progression to a final position. Linking phrases such as “So in this essay” and “For example” signal connections, but the essay’s structure remains incomplete and the progression is difficult to follow beyond the opening point. Complete each idea, use separate paragraphs for distinct reasons, and connect them to a clear conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “online reading,” “extra information,” “news,” and “readers,” which makes the general subject understandable. There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “online reading sectors,” although this expression is not natural in context. Spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, for example “depand,” “beter,” “Exparts,” “prespective,” and “useable,” and phrases such as “use online for news” and “by useing” are awkward. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, while the limited range leads to repetition of “people” and “online.” Build a more accurate range of collocations for discussing digital and printed media, and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple statements and some attempts to combine ideas, such as “because it is more affordable and easy to use” and the sentence describing links that provide extra information. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “people often use online for news” lacks a clear grammatical construction, while “people can easily use it anywhere by using their phone or computer” has unclear pronoun reference and an awkward structure. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “people” after a full stop and “i” in the middle of a sentence. Practise forming complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, agreement, punctuation, and sentence boundaries.
