IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that printed books and newspapers have lost their influence with the improvement of technology. I completely agree with the statement that internet has weakened the role of paper-based information.
There are a number of reasons why people are more into digital platforms in terms of reading books or getting updated news. One possible reason is that, Technology has undermined the effectiveness of conventional reading. With the help of technology, its so easy to access news of any part of the world, which goes same for academic articles and books. In fact, news portals and websites always update themselves and show the latest news, which gives the readers a chance to know about something almost instantly. Another reason is that it is totally free of cost. A consumer doesnt have to pay any subscription cost or any sort of payment to access news and journals from internet, which makes sense that it is convenient rather than spending money.
In addition, Printed books and papers can easily get lost, whereas there is no or a little chance of losing any sort of data or writing getting lost from the internet, unless and until someone removes that. Furthermore, through time, paper can lose its quality and turn into yellow, which can make the reader feel discomfortable while reading. Besides, a huge number of trees need to cut of daily to produce a large amount of paper, which automatically rises the environmental concerns.
In conclusion, as we are moving forward to a modern world and considering the above aurguments, I think digital form of reading will take place and people will spend less and less amount of money on reading conventional ways.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that the internet has weakened the role of printed information, and the conclusion restates this view. You give relevant reasons, including instant access to news, free online material, the durability of digital storage, and environmental concerns about paper production. This addresses the task, but the discussion is uneven: the points about convenience and cost receive some explanation, while the claims that digital data is unlikely to be lost and that paper becomes uncomfortable to read are asserted rather than supported. The prompt also asks whether nobody will buy printed books or newspapers in the future; your conclusion predicts reduced spending, but does not fully consider whether some people may still choose print. Develop that qualification and support each main reason more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from the convenience and cost of online reading to the practical and environmental disadvantages of print. Linking expressions such as “Another reason,” “In addition,” and “Furthermore” help signal this progression, and the reader can follow your argument. To make the organisation more flexible and cohesive, group related points more deliberately and avoid relying on a sequence of additive transitions. For example, the second body paragraph moves from losing printed items to paper quality and then tree use; a clearer topic sentence and explanation of how these points support your position would strengthen the paragraph. Some references, such as “that” in “which makes sense,” are also not fully precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “digital platforms,” “academic articles,” “subscription cost,” “environmental concerns,” and “paper-based information.” These choices make your main ideas clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “more into digital platforms,” “undermined the effectiveness of conventional reading,” and “turn into yellow.” There are also spelling and form errors, including “aurguments” and “discomfortable.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for established collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully; more precise vocabulary would help distinguish between online access, digital storage, and the continued appeal of printed publications.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “whereas,” “which,” and “unless,” and your meaning is generally understandable. Some sentences are controlled, such as “In conclusion, as we are moving forward to a modern world…” However, there are some recurring grammatical and punctuation errors. Examples include “Technology” after a comma, “its so easy” without the apostrophe, “A consumer doesnt have to pay,” and “a huge number of trees need to cut,” which needs a passive construction. The sentence beginning “One possible reason is that” also has awkward punctuation and structure. Review articles, verb forms, apostrophes, and sentence punctuation, while continuing to practise complex sentences with accurate clause structure.
