IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many individuals believe that in future , printed newspapers and books will be replaced by online books as they can read it without paying. I disagree with this statement as this essay will promise why physical newspaper and books cannot be replaced by e-newspaper.
To begin with, printed newspaper and books help them read better and clearly. physical paper helps readers mention word clearly and understandable as it helps to highlight sentences and keeps a record of important news . For example , there are some elder people who love reading physcial newspaper and books as they are kept away from e-newspaper as it damages their eyes,Whereas, printed newspaper help them read clealy and keeps record of news with dates.
On other side, reading e-news requires internet . However , physical newspaper does not require any source of medium and they can read it without and problem and make them visualize and define every word clearly without any problem. For instance, e-newspaper can have some problem while reading as it requires internet and a good mode of quality is depended on internet, however, physical newspaper does not require any source of internet and everything is depended on ink and words which makes readers communicate without any problem.
In conclusion, I disagree with the statement as printed newspaper or books cannot be replaced by e-news as it cannot provide the clear communication of words and a good quality of words which is given as a gift to reader which it cannot be provided by e-newspaper.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you disagree that online access will eliminate printed books and newspapers, and you give reasons involving older readers and the need for internet access. These points are relevant, but the response only partly develops the task. The discussion focuses mainly on newspapers, with books receiving little separate attention, and the claim that online reading is free is not examined. Some support is also unclear—for example, the point that paper helps readers “mention word clearly” does not explain convincingly why print will remain popular. To strengthen the response, address both books and newspapers directly, consider the statement’s claim about free online content, and explain each reason with a precise example or consequence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly group related reasons. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow because ideas are repeated or linked unclearly. The second paragraph, for instance, moves from older people’s preferences to eye damage and then to keeping a record of news without clearly showing how these points connect. Transitions such as “On other side” and repeated uses of “however” do not always establish the intended relationship. Referencing is also unclear in phrases such as “they can read it.” Use a clearer topic sentence for each paragraph and connect each example explicitly to its main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “printed newspaper,” “e-newspaper,” “internet,” and “highlight sentences,” so the reader can identify the subject and your main reasons. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “without any problem,” “clear,” and “physical newspaper.” Some word choices or collocations make meaning difficult to interpret, such as “mention word clearly,” “a good mode of quality,” and “communicate” for reading printed material. Spelling errors such as “physcial” and “clealy” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions and vary repeated terms—for example, describe print as “easy to annotate” or online access as “dependent on a reliable internet connection.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a contrast between online and printed reading, but complex constructions are often faulty and errors occur frequently. For example, “as this essay will promise why” does not form a correct clause, while “printed newspaper help them read” has a subject–verb agreement problem. There are also unclear pronouns and sentence boundaries, as in “they can read it” and “it damages their eyes,Whereas,” where the comma and capitalisation disrupt the sentence. Articles and plural forms are inconsistent, too. Practise building accurate sentences around one main idea, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, pronoun references and punctuation before adding subordinate clauses.
