IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In the modern era, individuals prefer online platform for reading purposes rather than other sources such as newspaper or books.I stronglly agree with the statement that people will not buy printed source of study as much as they bought in the past, but the need of printed material can not be overcome.
To begin with, citizens will relay more on the online platforms for buying books or newspaper because it is more convienient as compared to physical book shops. For instance,if any person go to market to buy books or newspaper,it will not be easy process to find out material which he want to buy.He will have to visit every single shop, sometime it does not available on the shops of own city then he will have to import from another city.
Furthermore, online platforms are also less costly or sometime we do not have to pay for it.In the modern world, technological advancement play significant role in the development due to which everything is available in software fornat with less cost as well. For instance,on internet we can search for anything and read from it without getting the owenrship because everything is available free.We do not have to go out to buy due to which travelling cost will minimized as well.If sometime there is cost for it then we do not need to wait for days,we can get at the same time after ordering it.
To sum up,people will give more attention to online reading sources as compared to physical books and newspaper.Firstly,it easy to access and we do not have to pay for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is stated in the introduction: you agree that online reading will become more common, while printed material will still be needed. You support the online trend with points about convenience, availability and cost, and the examples of searching online and avoiding travel are relevant. However, the response only partly addresses the question: it does not explain clearly why printed books or newspapers will continue to be bought, despite the qualification that their need “can not be overcome.” The discussion also focuses on buying online rather than reading material online for free, which is central to the prompt. Develop both sides of your position with specific reasons and examples, and make the conclusion reflect that balanced argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs generally group related points, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “To sum up” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression is limited: both body paragraphs mainly repeat the advantages of online sources, while the stated point about the continuing need for print is not developed. Some links are mechanical, and references such as “it” in “we can search for anything and read from it” are unclear. Build a clearer sequence by giving each paragraph a distinct purpose, using precise references, and connecting each example directly to the claim it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “online platforms,” “physical book shops,” “technological advancement” and “travelling cost.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation errors make parts less natural or harder to understand, such as “relay more,” “software fornat” and “the owenrship.” Phrases such as “buying books or newspaper” and “available on the shops” also show imprecise word choice or combinations. Aim for accurate, natural expressions rather than repeating broad terms such as “online platforms” and “available.” Proofread spelling and learn common collocations for access, cost and printed publications.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences using clauses and reasons, for example, “because it is more convenient” and “due to which everything is available…”. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in agreement and verb forms occur in “if any person go” and “technological advancement play”; articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “a newspaper or books.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, particularly where commas join long ideas. These errors sometimes make the reader pause to work out the meaning. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses, checking subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation in each sentence.
