IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the next era, people less attached to newspapers or books due to they got free material with out paying any amount. Many people argue that, in future every one have free access to news or knowledge, so they not make a purchase of that kind of things. But, i believe that the paper is the only thing that gave us experience of enjoying reading and create a spike in human brain that they are really reading without any distraction.

Nowadays, people almost using different kind of apps that provides up to date information about their interest. Due to that there is significant dawnfall noticed in newspaper industries. But, at soem extent people obsessed with paper and they always get better felling when they read neawpapers. Even new generations also find difficulty when they used apps then they get messages continuously from different apps. As a result, one boring news divert their interest and they might be not read important news.

However, in long run, lots of startup companies provide free material of books for academic students. I agree that helps to them whoes not financially capable. But, with that companies also promoting brands, that might be affect on study. So, in future it might take turn has a free material is a human right, but in return people want to watch advertise and provide personal inforamtion for test preferance.

In conclusion, I think having a printed books and newspapers is more convineant than digital reading materials, because it don't have any kind of distraction and also gave felling of reading which is not possible to get in the mobile phones.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you favour printed materials because they offer a more focused reading experience, and you acknowledge that free online books can help students who cannot afford them. These points address the question and are relevant. However, the discussion is uneven: the benefits of print are explained through distraction and enjoyment, while the claim that nobody will buy printed books or newspapers is not fully examined. The point about companies using advertising and personal information is relevant but needs a clearer link to whether people will continue buying print. To strengthen the response, develop both sides with specific explanations and make your degree of agreement explicit throughout, rather than relying mainly on the conclusion to clarify your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting online reading and its drawbacks, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and transitions such as “However” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the argument. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, though. For example, “But, at soem extent” does not clearly show how the point about apps relates to the preceding decline in newspaper industries, and the final sentence of the third paragraph combines several ideas without showing their relationship. Referencing in “that helps to them” is also unclear. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and organise each body paragraph around one main point developed step by step.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “up to date information,” “financially capable,” “distraction,” and “personal information.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the argument difficult to follow. Phrases such as “create a spike in human brain,” “better felling,” and “take turn” do not express the intended ideas naturally; spelling errors such as “neawpapers,” “convineant,” and “inforamtion” also reduce clarity. Aim to use familiar words accurately before reaching for unusual expressions, and check spelling carefully. Learning topic-specific combinations such as “focused reading experience” and “access digital publications” would help you express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response and sometimes make meaning unclear. For example, “every one have free access” needs subject–verb agreement, while “people almost using” is missing a finite verb. In “it don’t have,” the pronoun and verb do not agree, and “they got free material” uses an unclear tense for a general future claim. Practise building accurate basic clauses first, then combine them with subordinate clauses. Proofread each sentence for a clear subject, correctly formed verb, and complete structure.
