IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
We are living in the world where, we are now totally dependent on the technology. Our daily life is greately influenced by the mobile phones. So, I am of the opinion that in near future paper world is going to collapse. Because people would have an easy access to the great variety of news and all kind of literature in no time. Then why would someone wait for the next day coming newspaper to get the news which would have already been wide spread through social media.
The role of social media in this generation, is priamrily resposible how we set our daily routeen. Which ultimately decides our behaviours. So, if we keep spending our time on phones, we would definately be addicted to it. This addiction would lead us to leave behind the habit of using printed newspapers and books.
If we have a jug of water in front of us, we would drink more water. Similarly, if someone want to read a story and for the paper book he would need yo leave his comfortable bed, then get a convance, go to a shoping mall and have the story book. All this trouble just to get one story book?? While there are number of stories available on internet just at the palm of your hand (in phone).
There might be a number of problem one can face while focussing on degital media, but the comfort in having an access to verstile information instead of limited information enable us to always chose degital media over print media.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that online access will reduce demand for printed material, and you support this with points about rapid news circulation, phone use and convenience. These are relevant reasons, but the response develops the prediction more than it examines the full claim. In particular, the prompt says people will read everything online without paying; you do not discuss whether free access is realistic or whether some readers will continue buying print. The example of leaving bed to visit a shop illustrates convenience, but it is extended at the expense of explaining the broader future trend. To strengthen the response, address both the availability of free online content and reasons printed books or newspapers may remain popular, then support your position with more precise explanation.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs give reasons and an example, and the final paragraph acknowledges a possible drawback before reaffirming your preference. Linking expressions such as “Similarly” and “While” help connect ideas. However, progression is sometimes mechanical, and the relationship between social-media use and the disappearance of print is asserted rather than clearly explained. The rhetorical questions in the third paragraph also interrupt the formal argument, while “Then why would someone…” follows abruptly from the opening. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph around one main reason, with explicit links between the evidence and your prediction.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “social media,” “printed newspapers and books,” “addicted,” and “versatile information,” and you attempt phrases such as “wide variety” and “at the palm of your hand.” This gives you enough language to communicate the main argument, but spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural collocations are noticeable: “greately,” “wide spread,” “daily routeen,” “degital media,” and “comfortable bed” in this context. Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “information” and “story book.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural academic collocations, such as “access a wide range of content” and “circulate rapidly.” Vary repeated terms and choose precise language for the claim about free online reading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including conditional structures (“if we keep spending our time on phones, we would…”) and a comparison introduced by “Similarly.” The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation recur. For example, “We are living in the world where, we are now…” has an unnecessary comma and needs an article before “world”; “if someone want” has incorrect subject–verb agreement; and “There might be a number of problem” has a plural error. The long sentence beginning “Similarly, if someone…” is difficult to follow because its clauses are not controlled consistently. Practise accurate conditional patterns and divide long sentences into clearer units.
