IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the paced fast world, internet plays an important role to provide us information about newspapers and books. it is true that books and newspapers will be replaced by online sites without paying. i am totally agree with this given statement and discuss in upcoming paragraphs before reaching at reasonable conclusion.

To begin with, there are tremendous reasons why everyone would buy materials from online rather than newspapers and books. The fundamental reason is that Internet has been changed our society by providing us vast information about any topic which people want to read as well they do not need spare time to read about what is going on in their surrounding. So that online inforamtion is updated immediately, unlike printed newspapers or books. In 2015, a survey is conducted by indian media government that most of people watch and read information from the internet because of busy schedule in work and daily life which result in waste of printed newspaper and books.

Moreover, people of every nation do not want to spend money on unwanted things like paper and books because nowadays they have to do more time to earn money to fulfill their basic needs which encourage them to read information from online free sites . Last but not the least , less priniting paper and books can reduce deforestation which helps to decrease pollution in every country.

To sum up, after having a deep discussion about the statement that internet, less printing and save money is important for everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You state a clear position—“i am totally agree” that printed materials will be replaced—and give relevant reasons: online information is updated quickly, free access saves money, and reduced printing may help forests. These points show an attempt to address the question. However, the response only partly develops the argument. The claim that people will read “everything” online without paying is not examined in detail, and the survey example is vague and does not clearly support the prediction that nobody will buy printed books or newspapers. The conclusion also lists benefits rather than restating a reasoned judgement. Explain the extent of your agreement and develop each main point with a specific explanation or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a concluding sentence. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” help signal the movement between reasons. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from online information to spare time and then to a survey without showing the links between these points. Some connectors, including “So that” and “Last but not the least,” are awkward or mechanical, and the final sentence does not clearly bring the argument together. Use topic sentences that identify each paragraph’s main claim, then connect explanations and examples directly to that claim. Clearer referencing and a fuller conclusion would make the overall progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “vast information,” “updated immediately,” “busy schedule,” and “deforestation.” This gives you some means of expressing ideas about access, time and environmental effects. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “paced fast world” and “waste of printed newspaper and books” do not express the intended ideas naturally, while “less priniting” is unclear and misspelled. Repeated use of general words such as “information,” “people” and “important” also limits precision. Build a bank of topic-specific phrases and check spelling and collocations, especially when describing digital access, consumer habits and environmental impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “The fundamental reason is that…” and a clause introduced by “because.” However, control is inconsistent, and frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction can make the reader pause. Examples include “internet plays” without an article, “i am totally agree,” “Internet has been changed,” and “most of people watch.” The opening also begins a new sentence with lowercase “it,” and the final sentence is not formed as a complete, clear conclusion. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns first, then add subordinate clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, auxiliary verbs, articles and complete sentence boundaries.
