IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The importance of internet which was always debatable has now become more controversial with many people claiming that it is benefical while other rejected this notion. In upcoming years, no one will purchase hard copy of newspaper or books rather than they would be able to watch and read everything on internet without purchasing anything. In this essay i will furthur elaborate my views for favourting the positive impact of this trend and thus lead to a logical conclusion.
Analzing the statement i fully support the view that everyone would read and watch information on internet in near future because it will be very helpful. The first reason to support the statement is that it would make world a global city. By using interent organizations upload all the data and information online that they had stored in hard copies. Furthermore, when all data is uploaded on single platform person could not go to library and waste time in searching of books rather he will collect data from interent where it is stored on single platform which is very efficent and consume less time.
Moving further, the second reason for supporting is that the data that is stored on interent is free of cost, so people could not have to pay to use data. Person can read all the newspapers and books on internet in his drawing room without visiting any library or bookshop which reduces overall cost and time. Categorically discussing, It cannot be ignored that the main reason behind all this is interent that unite all the organization online so they can transfer data to consumer.
In conclusion, one of the main reasons stems from fact is that internet make world a global city and it can cut the cost of transport used by client to go to library or bookshop. So, locically i will agree with that statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that online access will replace printed newspapers and books, and you give reasons related to convenience, time and cost. These are relevant to the prompt. However, the response addresses the prediction only partially: it largely assumes that online material will be free and available on one platform, without explaining why this would mean nobody buys print in the future. The claim that the internet makes the world “a global city” is also broad and not fully connected to the effect on print purchasing. Develop each reason with a specific explanation or example, and acknowledge a relevant limitation, such as people who prefer physical books or paid online content, to make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from convenience to cost, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “Moving further” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, some linking is mechanical, and the second body paragraph repeats the idea that online access saves time and avoids visiting a library or bookshop. The relationship between “a global city” and the claim about replacing printed material is not always clear, while “Categorically discussing” introduces a point that largely restates the previous one. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make each paragraph develop a distinct reason, with clearer links between the claim and its explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “hard copy,” “stored,” “platform,” “consumer” and “overall cost,” and the reader can understand your main points. However, the range is limited by repeated use of “internet,” “data,” “information” and “reason,” and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “watch and read everything on internet,” “free of cost” and “consume less time.” Spelling errors, including “benefical,” “interent” and “locically,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling carefully. For example, distinguish between digital publications and online information, and use natural combinations such as “access content free of charge” and “save time.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “the data that is stored on internet” and a reason clause beginning “because.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. Examples include “many people claiming … while other rejected,” where the clause structure and agreement are unclear, and “Person can read … which reduces overall cost and time,” where the reference of “which” is imprecise. There are also recurring errors with articles, agreement and verb forms, such as “internet make world” and “internet that unite.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise building accurate sentences with subordinate clauses, and check articles, subject–verb agreement and punctuation when editing.
