IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
No one will be interested to purchase any kind of books or newspaper because in future everyone will be able to know everything via internet where no payment will be required. I would argue that having online facility is an obivious benefits but people will not lose their interest of reading paper based news or stories.
Reading paper based study materials or magazines is a habit of individuals which is their personal choice. In this modern technological world, as it has become more popular to enjoy online based stories or news where no money is being spent but it will not disappear that people are not enjoying paper oriented study or information. For example, many people tend to make their own collection of paper based books or magazines or newspapers because they enjoy reading them where they can highlight any point by highlighter or make notes by hand writing. Although there are many modern countries where they believe that having information in paper is a secure format of preserving datas because in near future it can happen that the security system of data where they are actually getting stored can be hacked or destroyed for some kind of technological default and at that time the country will become helpless without those online datas.
On the other hand, always having eyes on digital device for any kind of information can damage our health like for the online based reading habit eyes power are getting worst and some people are having sever level of headache because of the habit of being attached in a on screen based life. For instance, doctors are suggested now a days that people must need to change their life pattern to have a healthy life. They suggest to spent as much as shorter time on the digital device as these gadgets are making harm to the eyes & brain of human beings.
In conclusion, the reading habit of paper orianted stories or news will never be lost because of the modern technology of the community while online platform is also free of cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you disagree that free online access will eliminate printed reading. You address both sides by acknowledging the convenience of online material and giving reasons people may retain print, including personal preference, collecting books, making notes, preserving information, and avoiding screen-related health effects. These are relevant and include examples, so the response meets the task well. However, some points are less fully explained: the claim that printed records protect countries from data loss is broad, and the health argument does not directly show why people would continue buying printed books or newspapers. To strengthen the response further, develop the link between each reason and continued purchasing, and clarify whether you think print will remain common or simply persist for particular readers.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The contrast signalled by “On the other hand” helps the reader follow the shift from preference and preservation to health concerns. Overall progression is understandable, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In this modern technological world, as it has become more popular…” does not form a clear link to the following claim, and the long sentence about data security contains several ideas that would be easier to follow if divided. The conclusion introduces no new direction, but it could synthesise the two main reasons more clearly. Use more precise referencing and organise each paragraph around one clearly stated reason.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “online platform,” “preserving,” “security system,” and “digital device,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at less common expressions, but inaccurate word choice, collocation, word forms, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the prose awkward. Examples include “obivious benefits,” “paper oriented,” “preserving datas,” and “eyes power are getting worst.” Some phrases are repeated, particularly “paper based” and “online based,” which limits flexibility. Aim for more natural combinations and accurate forms, such as “printed materials,” “data,” and “worsening eyesight.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations would make your ideas clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “although,” and “where,” and this gives the essay some structural variety. The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation. For instance, “it will not disappear that people are not enjoying” is difficult to interpret, while “doctors are suggested” and “people must need to change” use incorrect verb patterns. The sentence beginning “Although there are many modern countries…” is also lengthy and structurally unclear. Work on building shorter, controlled sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with accurate verb patterns and agreement. This will preserve your range while improving clarity.
