IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this contemporary era, the trend of online books and newspaper increase considerably among the young generation, while printed materials also have great importance at this present time. while i agree with this statement that online resources will replace the printed materials because it is readily available and convenient as compared to printed books and newspaper.
With the tremendous growth and development of online resources every detail are available on all websites of internet. As a world become global village due to internet facilities, now it is easy and convenient for every individual to read newspaper and books without spending money. As the online resources have increasingly challenges and even undermine the printed materials by simply searching on websites. For instance, a students can get online lectures in 3D form which are upload by different mentors from around the world. Furthermore, news and different articles are upload on different websites before getting printing on paper, therefore news and informations are available in a short duration.
On the other side, the young people prefer to read from online websites then books because all types of data are available on the sites, therefore do not need to take bunch of books. In addition, some of people still prefer to read books and newspaper becuase they think that physical book have their own importance and online materials cannot completely repalce the printed materials.
To conclude, while it is true that free online reading will reduce the sales of printed materials, i believe printed books ans newspapers will never completely vanish due to credibility, tactile experience, and value for older for older generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You present a relevant position: online reading is likely to replace printed materials, while your conclusion argues that print will not disappear completely. This addresses the central issue, and you give supporting points about convenience, free access and the continuing value of physical books. However, the position is not fully consistent: the introduction says online resources “will replace” print, whereas the conclusion says they “will never completely vanish.” Clarify whether you mean print will become less common rather than disappear. Some support is also under-developed; for example, the 3D lecture example illustrates online learning more than why newspapers and books will replace print. Explain the reasons more directly and develop the counterargument about credibility and tactile experience with specific detail. This would make your response more complete and convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Ideas generally move from the growth of online resources to preferences for digital reading and then to the continued value of print. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “On the other side” and “To conclude” help signal these stages. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear: “As the online resources have increasingly challenges” does not clearly show how the idea relates to the preceding sentence, and the second body paragraph shifts between young people’s preferences and the reasons some people retain print without a clear contrast. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main point, and make references such as “they” and “therefore” unambiguous. This would improve progression and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including phrases such as “tremendous growth,” “global village,” “undermine” and “tactile experience.” These choices show an attempt to use less common language, and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, however. “Online resources have increasingly challenges” does not express the intended idea naturally, while “news and informations” and “different articles are upload” show problems with word form or spelling. “At this present time” and repeated uses of “available” could also be made more concise and precise. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural combinations, such as “pose a challenge to print media” and “news is published online,” and check spelling and countability when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “because” and “therefore.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas can generally be understood. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals and sentence boundaries. For example, “every detail are available” should use a singular verb, and “a students can get” has an article–plural mismatch. The opening also begins a new sentence with lowercase “while,” and the long sentence beginning “As the online resources…” is not well controlled. Review agreement and article use, and divide long sentences where the relationship between clauses is unclear. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the response.
