IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In coming years the use of digital books and ditigal news will become high and no any body will buy printed form of books, newspapers or other printed magazines. I partially agree with this statement because where it has benefit also there are numeroues disadvantage of digital technology like reading newspaper on social apps and books also instead of using printed form of news and books for reading and the update ot what is happening around us in the city, country or worldwide.

According to my perspection, as the people are growing in the technology and busy in their career for better future for himself and their family. They will have no time sit at one place and to read a printed media or books. Instead of this, they will use technology, social media for update or if they have the interest in reading books will use the mobile screen download from internet what he want to learn and reading. He can use the technlogy anywhere, anytime during travelling, eating, in office. In future, everyone will free to carry the heavy data with him in long distance journey.

In contrast, where it has positive impact also there are negeative impact. In coming future, the use of printed media for knowledge will be diminsh. In offices, where all information and record has saved in physical form will replace with digital data. What if the virus will come inside the technology and whole data will erased then no one can recover it but the data in physical form has no any threat like this. It can be saved for long time and can be read out when the need of this data.

Consequently, the use of digital technology outweigh the disadvantages of using internet in coming future. Everyone will have the technology in his hand and easily access of information which he want to confirm about confusion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a relevant, partly balanced response: you explain why readers may choose digital media, then raise the risk of losing stored information if technology fails. Your position is stated as “I partially agree,” but the conclusion says digital technology “outweigh[s] the disadvantages,” which suggests stronger agreement and leaves your final view unclear. The task specifically asks whether printed books and newspapers will disappear because online reading is free; your discussion focuses more on convenience and data security, with little consideration of whether online content is actually free or why some people may continue buying print. Develop both sides with specific support and make your position consistent from introduction to conclusion. This would make the response address the task more fully and its ideas less under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about the convenience of digital reading, a contrasting paragraph about data loss, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “In contrast” help signal the shift between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the opening, where several points are joined in one long sentence, and in the second paragraph, where the discussion moves from busy lifestyles to carrying “heavy data” without a clear link. Some references, such as “where it has benefit” and “this data,” are not immediately clear. Use clearer topic sentences, divide complex points into shorter units, and connect each example explicitly to your argument. This would make the organisation more consistently logical and cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “digital technology,” “physical form,” “social media,” and “recover,” so the reader can generally identify your subject and main ideas. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make parts of the response awkward or unclear. Examples include “ditigal,” “numeroues disadvantage,” “my perspection,” and “the update ot what is happening.” Phrases such as “heavy data” and “free to carry the heavy data” do not express the intended idea naturally; you may mean carrying a large amount of information on a device. Build a more accurate set of topic phrases and check spelling and collocations. More precise wording would help you express comparisons and examples without relying on repeated general terms such as “technology” and “information.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “What if the virus will come inside the technology” and a contrast between digital and physical records. However, complex attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the reader work to understand the meaning. For example, “They will have no time sit at one place” is missing a grammatical structure after “time,” while “all information and record has saved” has problems with agreement and verb form. There are also recurring issues with articles, plurals, and sentence construction, as in “no any body will buy” and “the use of digital technology outweigh.” Practise forming accurate clauses and checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and articles. Shorter, controlled sentences would improve clarity while you build range.
