IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

People will not buy printed books in the future due to the availability of online resources. I strongly agree with this statement because the use of technology increased significantly. This can allows people save their quality time and money with getthing help from the online websites

An increasing use of online websites for the studies, reducing the use of traditional books. This is because people relying more on e-books for getthing information on particular topic. For instance, students from lower income families can benefit from free online websites such as hamariweb because it allows them to gather material in detail rather than spending money on printed resources. As a result, people may follow the websites that are convinient to use and these can allow them to gather essential information.

Nowadays, artificial intelligence plays an essential role in students life. This is because AI tools allow students preparing notes on time. For instance, students having less time for exam preparation can find help through chatgpt, as it may support them in organising notes conviniently without spending more time on reading complete topics from conventional books. Therefore, students can prepare for exams within a day and it may aslo help to reduce stress.

In conclusion, available online resources often save student's time and money. These may help them to gather signifiicant knowledge without spending a larger amount. Moreover, artificial intelligence helps students in preparing notes on urgent basis. Therefore, I believe that printed books will no longer be a part of educationalist's life due to the larger availablity of online tools and resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that online resources will replace printed books, and you support this with points about saving money and time and using AI to prepare notes. The examples of students from lower-income families and exam preparation are relevant. However, the response focuses almost entirely on educational resources and printed books, while the prompt also asks about newspapers and whether everything will be available online without payment. The claim that printed books will disappear is asserted rather than fully examined, and the AI example partly repeats the point about convenience. To develop the response further, address newspapers and consider whether free online access is realistic, then explain how these points support your degree of agreement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Each body paragraph has a central topic, and examples introduced by “For instance” help connect claims to supporting details. The overall progression from free websites to AI tools is understandable. However, some links are mechanical or unclear: “An increasing use of online websites for the studies, reducing the use of traditional books” is not a complete sentence, and the relationship between the two body paragraphs could be made more explicit. The conclusion repeats the main benefits without drawing together the argument about the full scope of the prompt. Use complete topic sentences and clearer transitions to show how each paragraph advances your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “online resources,” “traditional books,” “lower income families,” “exam preparation” and “artificial intelligence.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, but the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “help,” “students,” “online” and “resources.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “save their quality time,” “gather material in detail” and “on urgent basis.” Spelling errors, including “convinient,” “signifiicant” and “availablity,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise expressions and check spelling carefully; varying repeated terms will make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and examples introduced by “as.” Some sentences communicate their meaning clearly, such as the example about students from lower-income families. However, errors in verb forms, sentence construction and agreement occur across the response. For example, “This can allows people save” needs a correctly formed modal construction, while “people relying more on e-books” lacks a finite verb. The opening of the second paragraph is also a fragment, and “AI tools allow students preparing notes” has an incomplete verb pattern. These errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise building complete sentences and checking subject–verb patterns, articles and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
