IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The type of newspapers or books that people are going to use in the future is a centeral focus os global discourse. Many people think that printed newspapers or books wont be used in the future because they will be able to read everything they want online for free. I strongly disagree with the idea of people will dispense with book and replace it with online apps for reading.

On one hand, using newspapers online or books online is benificiale because it is free. However, many people keen toward reading from a physical book or paper rather than using a technologycal devise, because it has charm of real reading. Moreover, reading from physical paper is better than reading online because the annoying notifications distruct people while reading due to that they can not focus of what they are reading not like in physical paper where they are able to focus and concentrate without any distruction. Furthermore, using a lot of screens can leads to eye strain and poor sleep and many people love to read before sleep at night where they feel more relaxed using a physical book or a newspaper while thier phones are in limit screen time mode.

On another hand, many people love to read from the internet because it is free and also because it is more pratical than using a physical book that you may not take with everywhere.

In my opinion, physical books and newspaper are indisponsable and people wont be dependent on it.

To sum up, although the benefits of the online reading, from my perspective people in the future wont use it and they keep use physical book over it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated clearly in the introduction (“I strongly disagree”) and reiterated in the conclusion, and you give relevant reasons: distraction from notifications, possible eye strain and sleep effects, and the convenience of online reading. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because several points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that physical reading has “charm” is not developed, and the opposing view is reduced mainly to being free and practical. The conclusion also says people “won’t use it,” which conflicts with your main position that printed materials will remain in use; clarify that you disagree with the prediction that nobody will buy them. The 11 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “On one hand” and “On another hand,” and a concluding paragraph. This gives the reader a basic route through your argument. However, progression is uneven: the first body paragraph contains several reasons in one long sequence, while the second offers only a brief counterpoint and does not explain how it relates to your position. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated “Moreover” and “Furthermore,” and “To sum up” introduces a conclusion that repeats rather than resolves the argument. Use clearer topic sentences, develop one main idea per paragraph, and connect the counterargument explicitly to your response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “notifications,” “eye strain,” “concentrate,” and “practical,” and these choices help communicate your reasons. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “indispensable” and “global discourse,” but some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision. Examples include “keen toward reading,” “a technologycal devise,” and “physical paper”; more natural choices would be “prefer reading,” “a digital device,” and “printed material.” Spelling errors such as “centeral,” “benificiale,” and “distruction” are noticeable. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, rather than choosing formal-sounding phrases that do not fit the context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and a contrast introduced by “although.” However, errors in sentence structure and verb forms are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “I strongly disagree with the idea of people will dispense” needs a grammatical pattern such as “I strongly disagree with the idea that people will dispense,” while “using a lot of screens can leads” should use the base verb after “can.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, and agreement in “replace it with online apps” and “people won’t be dependent on it.” Review clause patterns after nouns such as “idea,” modal verbs, and consistent singular/plural reference; then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
