IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is possible that nobody will buy physical books and newspaper because they will contain E-books which will be free. I genuinely agree with this statement. This essay will discuss both However, in my opinion people should study hard form of books.

There are several reasons why people will study e-books and newspapers. Firstly, it will be cost saving, inflation is rising day by day and people will try to save money. They will download books whatever they will be needed. Secondly, It wil be time saving and easy to carrying outside and they could be read during travel and in their free time. Lastly, the main reason would be digital tools. The invention of new technology is changing the life style of people. Individuals attract towards novelity and quite their old habits. For example, Digital tools have changed the style of education, a large number of students study online rather than taking classes on site.

I totally agree with this concept, even though in the present day online resources have changed people's life style. For example, study procedure has been changed, students make their notes and keep their books in soft form, even educational institutes are allowed students to use mobile phone in aniversities and colleges. A fewer students and people only read books and newspapers now, but in future it would be finished.

In my opinion, people should read printed books and newsapapers because it prevents them from eyesight loss and it courage authors to publish new books . It prevents student to distraction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear general view that you agree printed publications may be replaced, and you offer relevant reasons: cost, convenience, and the growth of digital technology. The example of students studying online helps illustrate this trend. However, the position becomes less clear when you say, “people should study hard form of books,” and later argue that people should read printed books. The task asks how far you agree with the prediction, so distinguish your personal preference for print from your view of what most people will do. Several points, such as eyesight and distraction, are introduced briefly and not explained. Develop fewer reasons with clearer explanation and support to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

Your response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, a further example, and a concluding opinion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” and “Lastly” help readers follow the list of reasons. However, progression is weakened by the unclear introduction (“This essay will discuss both However”) and by repeating agreement in the third paragraph without clearly adding a new stage to the argument. The contrast between predicting that print will disappear and recommending printed books also needs a clearer link. Use each paragraph for one distinct purpose, connect examples directly to the point they support, and make references such as “this concept” more specific.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “inflation,” “digital tools,” “online resources,” and “soft form.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “novelity,” although inaccurate spelling and word choice reduce precision. Some combinations sound unnatural or make the meaning harder to follow, for example “cost saving,” “easy to carrying outside,” and “it courage authors.” Repetition of “people,” “books,” and “study” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations for this topic and check spelling and word forms carefully; more precise phrasing will help your reasons sound clearer and more convincing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including a conditional idea (“because they will contain E-books which will be free”) and a concession (“even though…”). However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to understand. Examples include “people will try to save money” followed by the comma splice “inflation is rising day by day,” and “They will download books whatever they will be needed.” There are also problems with verb forms and sentence construction in “students make their notes and keep their books in soft form, even educational institutes are allowed students…” Practise joining clauses with appropriate conjunctions and check subject–verb patterns, articles, and verb forms.
