IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The world has become a global village and everything is avilable on the finger tip. Many people left reading printed books or newspapers and shifted to online community where they can access everything what they needed to study.
Reading books is a good habit and people should try to arrange sometime on daily basis to read an article or noval according to their choices. Books have been a great source to the innovation of new things in the world where people get knowledge for research and other purposes. In old times there were no other sources of information except printed books when the computer or digital devices were not been developed.
Now a days most of people use digital devices including desktops, leptop or mobile to read any thing. They don't want to spent much time to go to market and buy the books of their interests and arrange specific time for reading. People just use their devices to search particular books and read on the spot with the screen. Screen time gives more stress and make people tired early when compare to books. Long screen time is really bad for physical health.
So people should try to avoid long screen time and read printed books with physical feel and touch. Printed books gives natural feel and it improve the mental health. A research has been published in which they researchers said that the people who read physical books have much memory and they remembers longer than the people who read on screens. Goverments in all countries should permote libraries and encourage people to read books.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response is relevant and gives a clear preference for printed books, supported by points about screen-related tiredness and the value of physical reading. However, it only partly addresses the central prediction: whether people will stop buying printed newspapers and books because online material is free. The essay discusses reading habits and health, but does not directly assess whether free online access will replace purchases, and newspapers receive little attention. The claim about libraries is relevant but not explained as a response to the future trend. To strengthen the argument, state how far you agree in the introduction and develop both the convenience and cost of online reading and reasons people may continue buying print, using specific support for each point.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable paragraph structure: it introduces the shift online, discusses the value of books, describes digital reading, and ends with a recommendation. This gives the reader a basic route through the ideas. However, the overall progression is not consistently focused on the question, and several points are placed beside one another without clear links—for example, the discussion of historical information sources does not lead clearly to the argument about future purchases. Connections such as “So” are used, but the conclusion mainly repeats the preference for print rather than drawing together an answer to the prediction. Improve cohesion by organising paragraphs around reasons for and against the replacement of print, and use clearer references to connect each example to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “digital devices,” “screen time,” “physical health,” and “libraries,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the response less natural: “online community” does not clearly mean online reading, “arrange sometime” is unclear, and “much memory” does not express the intended comparison. There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “avilable,” “noval,” “leptop,” and “Goverments.” Build a more precise vocabulary for the task, including terms for buying, accessing, and replacing publications, and check spelling and collocations carefully. This would make your argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay includes mostly straightforward sentence patterns and some attempts to combine ideas, such as “when the computer or digital devices were not been developed.” However, control is uneven, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “people left reading … and shifted” uses an unsuitable tense and structure, while “Printed books gives … and it improve” has agreement errors. In “A research has been published in which they researchers said,” the clause is not formed correctly. Practise accurate present and past forms, subject–verb agreement, and relative clauses, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb. More reliable control of these patterns will support your attempts at complex sentences.
