IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In upcoming days, instead of buying printed news paper or books people will read from social media without having a subscription. I definitely agree with this statement because in future everything will be quit accessible and do not need to wait for the information.
In this modern generation it is all about effortless, in the past people had to struggle in order to get printed newspaper or any sort of books but due to modernisation in this, it’s quite easier to access newspaper like in rural area, you don’t have any newspaper supplier to supply you printed newspaper because of this problem in future, online media will help people to access any kind of information from anywhere.
On the other hand in the first people had to wait for newspaper. It took time to reach to people or sometimes people couldn’t make it to the individuals or couldn’t deliver it properly, so sometimes you had to missed or took long time to reach you. but in upcoming future you don’t have to wait for newspaper to reach you, it will not take any time without taking any time, you can search on social media or YouTube about any kind of information. It will not take any time. instantly you can access any kind of information around the world.
I definitely agree because in future everything will be quite accessible and people don’t have to pay, they can access anything from anywhere without thinking about cost. because of that, in future, people instead of choosing printed newspaper, people will choose browser or website in order to get proper information.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You state a clear position—“I definitely agree”—and give relevant reasons, particularly the convenience of accessing information online and the difficulty of newspaper delivery in rural areas. However, the response only partially develops the task. It focuses mainly on newspapers and social media, with little discussion of books, and it assumes that online material will be free without explaining why this is likely. Several points, such as not having to wait for information, are repeated rather than supported with specific examples or fuller reasoning. To strengthen the response, address both printed newspapers and books, explain the claim about free access, and develop each reason with a concrete example while maintaining your position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a concluding statement, so there is some organisation. The main ideas—accessibility and delivery delays—are relevant, but progression is difficult to follow because the second and third paragraphs repeat the same point about waiting and access. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” do not introduce a clear contrast, and repeated expressions like “in future” and “any kind of information” make the connections mechanical. Some sentences also run together, particularly in the paragraph beginning “On the other hand.” Give each paragraph one distinct purpose, use transitions that accurately show the relationship between ideas, and make references such as “this problem” more specific.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general argument, including “printed newspaper,” “subscription,” “rural area,” “access” and “information.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repeated, especially “in future,” “any kind of information” and “quite accessible.” Some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “effortless” for describing modern life and “make it to the individuals” for newspaper delivery. These choices sometimes make the reader work to understand your meaning. Build a wider set of precise terms for publishing and digital access, and check that phrases sound natural in context. More accurate collocations would make your reasons clearer and reduce repetition.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses with “because” and “so,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence boundaries: for example, “you had to missed,” “people will choose browser or website,” and the long sentence beginning “On the other hand” contains several ideas joined without clear punctuation. The opening also shifts between “people” and “you,” which makes the general statements less consistent. These problems can make parts of the argument difficult to follow. Practise building accurate complex sentences, check verb forms after modal verbs and “had to,” and divide sentences when they contain several separate points.
