IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In the future nobody will buy printed newspapers or books because they will be able to read everything they want online without paying. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that readers will get opportunities to read free e-books in the near future and nobody will buy printed newspapers and books anymore. I strongly support this statement that will get free access to read books and newspapers online.
There are numerous reasons for reading books online, the first reason is that, people are getting technological advantages. All people have access to the internet so that they can easily get the portable document format of books. Moreover students get opportunity to read the foreign writers' book so they can enlarge their intellectuality. Another reason is, online newspapers are so faster than before and people get chance to read different news from both national and international. Thirdly, reading e-books and online newspapers is less time consuming and more convenient. For instance, a reader can read any book or newspaper on his devices by sitting outside of home as well as he does not need to carry heavy books from one place to another place. Furthermore, printed materials are so expencive whereas online medias are quite cheaper and some of them are free to read.
Despite having the benefits of online books and newspapers, these have some drawbacks too. While students study online materials, sometimes they face so many distractions. For example, when a student read a e-book through internet, he gets an easy access to browsing other social medias on his device and is causes a great waste of valuable time. Moreover, too much screen time causes health hazards such as it is more harmful for those who have eye disorder. Finally, online news portals spread fake news so that people get easily misleded.
In conclusion, i would say that e-books and online portals are significantly important and helpful to the readers rather than printed medias. Because these are highly resolved and cheaper than printed ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you strongly support the prediction that online reading will replace purchases of printed materials. You address both advantages and disadvantages, including convenience, cost, distraction, health concerns and misinformation, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the central claim that people will be able to read everything online without paying is not examined in enough detail. For example, you mention that some online materials are free, but do not consider whether all books and newspapers will actually be available without charge or whether printed formats may continue to appeal to some readers. Some supporting points, such as access to foreign writers, are also asserted rather than explained. Develop these points and connect them more directly to the future prediction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting benefits, a paragraph on drawbacks, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the discussion. This organisation is effective, while the repeated sequencing expressions “Another reason” and “Thirdly” make parts of the benefits paragraph feel somewhat mechanical. Some connections between ideas could also be clearer: the drawbacks are presented, but their relationship to your strong support for the statement is not explained. The final sentence beginning “Because” is also detached from the preceding sentence. Use more varied transitions and make the conclusion explicitly show why the advantages outweigh the limitations.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “technological advantages,” “distractions,” “health hazards,” and “misled,” which helps communicate several relevant points. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “portable document format.” However, inaccurate word choice, spelling and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “intellectuality,” “online medias,” “highly resolved,” and “misleded” are examples. Phrases such as “online newspapers are so faster” and “get opportunities to read” also show limited control of natural combinations. Aim for precise, conventional expressions and check spelling and word forms. This would make your ideas clearer and allow your vocabulary range to work more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while,” “whereas,” and “so that.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, some errors in sentence construction, verb forms, articles, agreement and punctuation remain. For example, “the first reason is that, people are getting technological advantages” has an unnecessary comma and an awkward clause structure; “when a student read” needs a matching verb form, and “he gets an easy access” has an article problem. The opening claim also lacks a clear grammatical link in “I strongly support this statement that will get free access.” Review sentence boundaries and check subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms, especially in longer sentences.
