Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrate the way noodles are manufactured.

Overall, the manufacturing of food consist of eight stages starting up with the storage of silos and ending up with labeling and sealing of noodles.

Initially, the manufacturing of noodles start from the silos storage and then the water and oil is mixed in it with the help of the mixer. Moreover, the dough sheets is made from it with the help of rollers which rotates continuesly. In addition, the dough is then converted into the strips to give it proper noodles shape.

Furthermore, the noodles are then given the shape of the discs and the cooking oil is then added to it with drying process as well. Moreover, then the noodles are added to the cups with some vegetables and spices to have a good taste and in the last the noodles are labelled and sealed and get ready for the costumers to eat.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the process as having eight stages and give a clear start and finish, which provides a relevant overview. The response also reports several key steps in sequence, including mixing, forming sheets and strips, shaping discs, cooking and drying, and adding vegetables and spices. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the flour is stored in silos before being mixed with water and oil, rather than the water and oil being mixed “in” the silos, and the cups are added before the vegetables and spices are placed with the noodles. The final stage is labelling and sealing the cups, not simply the noodles. A more precise account of these relationships and a fuller overview of the production stages would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information follows the general production sequence, and the use of “Initially,” “Furthermore,” and “in the last” helps signal movement through the process. The response is also arranged in paragraphs, with an opening overview followed by the stages. However, several transitions are repetitive: “Moreover” appears more than once, and the sequence of events within the final paragraph is not always clear. For example, “the noodles are added to the cups with some vegetables and spices” combines two actions without clearly showing their order. Use a wider range of precise sequencing phrases and make each sentence describe one or two connected stages. Clearer links between the stages would make the progression easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “mixer,” “rollers,” “dough sheets,” “strips,” “discs,” and “labelled and sealed,” so the reader can recognise the main stages. However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise or informal for a process description. “The silos storage” is an awkward phrase, “give it proper noodles shape” is unclear, and “have a good taste” and “ready for the costumers to eat” add unsupported commentary rather than describing the diagram. There is also a spelling error in “costumers.” Aim for concise, factual wording and use terms such as “stored,” “formed,” and “packaged” accurately. This would improve precision and reduce repetition of “noodles.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, using forms such as “which rotates” and “with the help of rollers,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “The diagram illustrate” should be “The diagram illustrates,” while “the manufacturing … consist” and “the dough sheets is made” also have subject–verb agreement problems. “The manufacturing … start” needs a correctly formed verb, and the opening phrase “Initially, the” needs spacing after the comma. Some long sentences join several stages with “and” or “moreover,” making grammatical relationships less controlled. Practise accurate present-simple passive forms, which are especially useful for describing manufacturing processes.
