Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates the manufacturing of instant noodles.
Overall, the process includes eight different steps from mixing flour with oil and water till labelling and sealing the final product.
Firstly, the flour is bought to the storage silos and is stored here untill it is taken to the mixer. The mixture machine mix the flour, oil and water and a rough flour dough is made. The rough flour dough is than rolled and dough sheets are made from the rough dough and are ready to go onto dough strips machine. The dough sheets are converted into dough strips, which are then spin around and noodles discs are made from the strips. The noodles discs are cooked and than dried, after that the dried noodles discs are putted into cups where it is mixed with vegetables, and spices are putted in cups. The cups are than labelled, sealed and get ready for the distribution.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the process as a sequence from flour storage through to labelling and sealing, and your overview correctly notes that it has eight stages. Most of the main transformations are included, such as mixing, forming sheets and strips, and cooking and drying. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the noodles are formed into discs rather than “spin around,” and the diagram shows vegetables and spices being added as the cups are filled, not the noodles being mixed with them. The overview could also better summarise the process as a whole, including the final packaged cups. To strengthen the response, describe each stage precisely and distinguish the addition of ingredients from the packaging steps.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The stages are presented in a generally logical order, and sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “then,” and “after that” help the reader follow the process. The opening and overview are separated from the main description, which gives the response a basic structure. However, nearly all the detailed stages are compressed into one long paragraph, and repeated use of “the rough flour dough” and “the cups” makes the progression feel mechanical. Some links are also awkward, particularly “after that the dried noodles discs are putted into cups where it is mixed with vegetables.” Use clearer paragraphing and more varied, accurate transitions, while making the relationship between each stage explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant process vocabulary, including “storage silos,” “dough sheets,” “dough strips,” “noodles discs,” and “labelled and sealed,” so the reader can recognise the main stages. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural. “Bought to the storage silos” does not clearly express that flour is transported there, while “spin around” is not a precise description of the discs being formed. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “untill,” “than,” and “putted.” Aim for precise process verbs and check spelling and collocations; this will make the description clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts to connect stages in longer sentences, for example, “The dough sheets are converted into dough strips, which are then…” This shows some use of subordinate clauses and passive forms appropriate for a process description. However, the longer constructions are often faulty, and errors recur in verb forms and agreement: “The mixture machine mix,” “is than rolled,” and “are putted” should be corrected. The sentence beginning “The noodles discs are cooked” also runs several stages together, making the grammatical relationships difficult to follow. Use the present simple passive consistently for the process, and divide complex sequences into shorter sentences. More accurate sentence control is needed alongside the range attempted.
