Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrates the preparation of instant noodles and how they are finally manufactured in the market.

Overall, significant steps take place in it to complete the process, initially it starts with storage silos where they are filled with the flour and combines with water and oil and in the final step theya are manufactured by labelling seals on the products.

Firstly, the storage silos are filled with the flour by an vehicle. Mixer is used to mix the flour with oil and water and rollers used to make them into an dough sheets. These dough sheets are further processed into the dough strips.

Dough strips are used to roll in the noodles discs which gives an circle shape and cooking oil is

added to it later, the drying takes place in it. Cups are used for the vegetables and spices and in the finall step labelling and sealings are kept on it for the sale.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the process as a sequence from flour storage to finished, labelled cups, and include several key stages: mixing, forming sheets and strips, shaping noodle discs, cooking and drying, and adding vegetables and spices. This gives the reader a relevant account of the main production stages. However, the overview is unclear and does not clearly summarise the process as a whole; “significant steps take place” is too general. Some details are also incomplete or imprecise: the cups are introduced when noodles, vegetables and spices are brought together, and the final stage is labelling and sealing, rather than simply putting labels and seals on the products. A clearer overview and more precise reporting of how the stages connect would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an overview followed by stages introduced through “Firstly” and a final paragraph covering later production. The sequence is generally understandable, and the paragraphs group related information. However, progression becomes less clear in places: “Dough strips are used to roll in the noodles discs” does not clearly explain the transition, and the final paragraph moves from cooking and drying to cups without explicitly showing that the noodles enter cups and that vegetables and spices are added there. Some linking is mechanical or awkward, while repeated references such as “it” make the connections between stages uncertain. Use clearer stage-to-stage links, such as “Next” and “After drying,” and ensure each pronoun has an unmistakable reference.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant process vocabulary, including “storage silos,” “mixer,” “rollers,” “dough sheets,” “dough strips,” and “labelling,” so the reader can follow much of the manufacturing sequence. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a process. For example, “preparation … finally manufactured in the market” confuses production with sale, while “roll in the noodles discs” and “labelling and sealings are kept on it” do not express the intended actions naturally. There are also spelling and form slips such as “finall” and “sealings.” Aim for precise process verbs and standard collocations, for example, “are shaped into discs” and “the cups are labelled and sealed.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple sentences and longer structures, including the overview beginning “Overall” and the sequence describing how dough sheets become strips. However, control is uneven, and some sentence patterns make relationships difficult to understand. Examples include “it initially starts with storage silos where they are filled” and “Dough strips are used to roll in the noodles discs,” where the clause structure and verb forms are faulty. There are also errors with articles and agreement, as in “an vehicle” and “an dough sheets,” and the final sentence has an unclear construction: “labelling and sealings are kept on it.” Practise accurate passive forms for process descriptions, such as “The flour is mixed” and “The cups are labelled and sealed,” while checking articles and sentence boundaries.
