The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The diagram reveals how instant noodles are manufactured.
Overall, instant noodles manufacturing has eight stages which begin from storing flour in the storage silos and and end with labelling and sealing.
Initially, the flour is stored in the storage silos, following that water and oil is mixed with it in the mixer. After mixing, it is sent on to the rollers which makes the dough of mixture. It is sliced into strips onwards.
Going on, the dough strips are converted into noodle discs and dried instantly with cooking oil.The noodle discs are shifted in to the cups where vegetable and spices are added for flavourful instant noodles. In the eighth and the final step, the cups rolled on the roller and reaches the final stage, in which cups are sealed.
In the final step, labelling is applied on the sealed noodles cups and the instant noodles are manufactured and ready for the shipment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all stages of the manufacturing process, from the storage of flour to the final labelling. The overview is clear, identifying the eight-stage process. However, the report lacks a more analytical approach; it describes the steps sequentially but misses opportunities to group stages or highlight key transitions more effectively. While the main features are reported, the description of the process is somewhat mechanical. To reach a higher band, ensure that the relationship between stages is described with more precision, rather than just listing them one after another.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the process. Cohesive devices such as 'Initially', 'Going on', and 'In the final step' are used to signal the progression of the stages. However, some transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between the third and fourth paragraphs could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the use of 'the' before 'cups' and 'noodles' is occasionally inconsistent, which slightly affects the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, using process-specific terms like 'silos', 'dough', 'strips', and 'labelling'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'cups rolled on the roller', which is slightly imprecise. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning, but it lacks the sophistication or variety that would characterize a higher band. The use of 'flavourful' is a good attempt at descriptive language, but overall, the lexical range remains somewhat limited to the basic terminology provided in the diagram.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('water and oil is mixed' should be 'are mixed') and minor punctuation errors (missing spaces after periods). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. The sentence structure is generally functional, but there is a lack of more advanced grammatical variety, such as passive voice constructions, which are particularly suitable for describing industrial processes.
