Student answer (Band 5.5)
The given pictures illustrates the process by which instant noodles are produced.
Overall, it is clear that there are 8 stages in this linear process, commencing with storing flour in silos and ending with sealing cups.
At the first stages of this process, flour is pumped from a truck into tower silos for storage before being put into a mixing machine, where it is mixed with combination of water and oil. After this stages has been completed, the resulting mixture is rolled over to create dough sheets, and then

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which severely limits the ability to fully address the task. While the introduction and overview are present, the description of the process is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence. Because the response fails to cover the entire process shown in the diagram and does not meet the length requirement, it cannot be awarded a score higher than 5.0. To improve, you must ensure all stages of the process are described and that you provide a complete, well-developed summary that meets the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response uses basic cohesive devices such as 'Overall' and 'At the first stages', which helps with the initial flow. However, because the text is incomplete and ends abruptly, the logical progression is interrupted. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of a full body section makes it difficult to assess the overall structure effectively. To achieve a higher band, ensure that your response is complete and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect the different stages of the process more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for describing a manufacturing process, with terms like 'silos', 'mixing machine', and 'dough sheets'. However, the range is limited due to the brevity of the text. There are minor errors in word form, such as 'pictures illustrates' (should be 'picture illustrates' or 'pictures illustrate') and 'combination of water' (should be 'a combination of water'). To improve, focus on using more precise technical vocabulary related to industrial processes and ensure subject-verb agreement.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'At the first stages' (should be 'At the first stage') and 'After this stages' (should be 'After this stage'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable. The incomplete nature of the final sentence also affects the overall grammatical control. To improve, focus on proofreading for singular/plural agreement and ensure that all sentences are completed with correct punctuation.
