Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student identifies the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, the description is incomplete and lacks the necessary detail to fully explain the sequence. For instance, the fourth stage is left unfinished, and the overall summary lacks a clear comparison or synthesis of the process. To improve, ensure all steps are described clearly and the response reaches the required length by providing more descriptive detail about the machinery and the transformation of the ingredients.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the sequence of events. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'Finally'). There are also issues with logical progression, particularly where sentences are fragmented or incomplete, such as the sentence ending abruptly at 'and then'. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track the flow of the process. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each sentence is complete would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'process', 'stage', and 'noodles'. There are several errors in word choice and form, such as 'instance noodles' instead of 'instant noodles' and 'ready produced' instead of 'ready-made'. The range is insufficient to demonstrate precision, and the errors occasionally hinder the clarity of the description. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more specific technical vocabulary related to manufacturing processes, such as 'conveyor belt', 'extrusion', or 'dehydration', and ensure accurate word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the process... have eight step') and incorrect article usage ('through the flour'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, and the attempt at a complex structure in the fourth stage is incomplete, resulting in a fragmented sentence. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and practicing the use of complex structures like passive voice, which is essential for describing manufacturing processes.
