Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, from flour storage to final packaging. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which negatively impacts the score. While the key features are identified, the description lacks a clear overview or summary of the process, which is a requirement for Task 1. The explanation of the steps is somewhat mechanical and lacks the analytical comparison expected at higher bands. To improve, ensure you include a clear introductory overview statement and expand on the descriptions to meet the word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is written as a single paragraph, which hinders the logical flow and readability. While there is a chronological progression using transition words like 'Following this', 'After that', and 'Once this step is completed', the lack of paragraphing makes the text feel dense. Cohesive devices are used, but they are somewhat repetitive and mechanical. To achieve a higher band, you should organize the information into at least two or three distinct paragraphs—for example, grouping the preparation stages and the final processing/packaging stages separately.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several awkward word choices, such as 'ready substance' and 'added species' (likely meaning 'spices'). The phrasing 'culminating with labeling' is a good attempt at higher-level vocabulary, but it is undermined by errors in basic collocations and word forms. To improve, focus on using more precise technical terms related to manufacturing processes and ensure you are using the correct terminology for the items shown in the diagram.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'that going though eight complex steps', 'used flour that concentrated in storage silos are transported', and 'than produt is finally ready'. There are issues with subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence structure. The attempt at complex sentences is present, but these are often grammatically flawed. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that articles are used correctly before nouns.
