Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
You have successfully identified the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, from the initial storage of flour to the final labeling and sealing. You have covered all parts of the diagram, which is a strength. However, the response lacks a clear overview or summary of the process, which is essential for a high band score in Academic Task 1. To improve, you should include an introductory sentence that highlights the overall nature of the process (e.g., it is a linear, multi-stage industrial process). Additionally, ensure you clearly distinguish between the preparation, cooking, and packaging phases to provide a more structured summary of the information provided in the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is generally coherent, and the progression of the process is logical. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In the first step', 'After that', and 'After all this procedure' to guide the reader through the stages. However, the paragraphing is insufficient; the entire body of the response is contained in one large paragraph. Breaking the text into logical paragraphs—for example, separating the preparation phase from the cooking and packaging phases—would significantly improve the structure. Additionally, some referencing is slightly repetitive, and the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect the steps more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to describe the process clearly. You use relevant technical terms like 'silos', 'dough', 'labeling', and 'sealing'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'bulk of flour' (should be 'the bulk of the flour' or 'large quantities of flour') and 'species' (likely meant 'spices'). The range is somewhat limited, and you rely on basic verbs like 'move' and 'convert' repeatedly. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise verbs such as 'transferred', 'processed', 'transformed', or 'distributed' to add variety and sophistication to your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect the clarity of your writing. For instance, there are issues with subject-verb agreement ('process consist', 'machine that contain', 'all the cup are sealed') and article usage ('in a storage silos', 'on a dough sheet'). Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'dough moved through those dough strips which in which dough converted'. To improve, focus on ensuring that your verbs agree with their subjects and pay closer attention to the use of articles and prepositions. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
