The diagram below shows how instant noodles are manufactured.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing instant noodles, from the storage of flour to the final packaging of the finished product.

Overall, the production process consists of several stages. It begins with flour being stored in large silos and ends with the noodles being placed in cups, labelled and sealed. The main stages involve mixing, rolling, cutting, cooking and drying the noodles before vegetables and spices are added.

First, flour is stored in large storage silos and is then transferred to a mixer. At this stage, water and oil are added to the flour to form a mixture. The mixture is subsequently passed through a series of rollers, which flatten it into large sheets of dough. These sheets are then cut into thin strips.

Next, the dough strips are shaped into round noodle discs. These noodle discs are cooked in oil and then dried. After this, the dried noodles are placed into individual cups. Vegetables and spices are added to each cup to provide flavour.

Finally, the cups containing the noodles, vegetables and spices move to the last stage of the production line. They are labelled and sealed, making them ready for distribution and sale.
