Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates the process of manufacturing instant noodles
overall the manufacturing consist of eight stages.
Starting with the storage of flour in silos and ending with the labelling the packed instant noodles.
Looking first at the flour storing in the silos which is next processed for mixing which include the combination of water and oil. The following mixer which is further obtained is sent by roller to dough sheets which are then refined into straight flour strips, these flour dough strips are given a discs like structure which contain essential cooking oil and these are dried.
On the other hand, The cup like container has the needed spices and veggies which are very helpful for getting specific taste for the instant noodles. The final process of the manufacturing is its labelling and sealing, the final product which is processed will be sealed into cups and then the final product is been sealed then released to end users.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, from flour storage to final packaging. However, the description of the process is somewhat disjointed and lacks clarity in the middle stages. For instance, the transition from 'roller to dough sheets' to 'discs like structure' is confusing and does not clearly explain the transformation of the product. While the main features are identified, the lack of a clear, logical flow makes it difficult for the reader to follow the sequence of events. The overview is present but could be more effectively integrated into the introduction.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical, such as 'Looking first at' and 'On the other hand', which do not always fit the context of a process description. The progression of ideas is not always logical; for example, the jump between the dough preparation and the cup container preparation feels abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to track the stages of the process effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'discs like structure' and 'the following mixer which is further obtained'. The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to describe technical processes with appropriate academic vocabulary. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of sophisticated or precise terminology limits the score. Spelling is generally accurate, but the overall range is quite restricted.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the manufacturing consist of' (subject-verb agreement), 'the final product is been sealed' (incorrect passive voice construction), and 'the labelling the packed instant noodles' (missing preposition/article). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage in long, run-on sentences. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band.
