Student answer (Band 5.5)
The diagram illustrates how instant noodles are produced, showing the process from storage silos to adding labels and sealing.
Overall, there are eight main stages in the process .It begins with storing flour in storage silos and ends with putting labels and seals on instant noodles packs.
At the first stage, flour was stored in storage silos. Following this, the water and oil was added into the flour, and makes the mixture. After that, a dough sheets was produced with the help of roller and then it was cut into strips. The noodles discs than transferred into cooking oil and drying.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response covers the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, from storage to final packaging. However, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the development of the description. While the overview is clear, the lack of detail in describing the transition between stages—such as the specific machinery or the precise sequence of adding ingredients—means the response is not fully developed. To improve, you should expand on the descriptions of the processes, such as explaining the transformation of the dough or the specific nature of the drying and cooking stages, to ensure the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally clear, following the chronological order of the diagram. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'At the first stage' and 'In the next stage'. Additionally, there are minor errors in referencing, such as 'The noodles discs than transferred', where the lack of a verb and the misuse of 'than' instead of 'then' disrupts the flow. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, using process-specific terms like 'storage silos', 'dough sheets', and 'manufacturing process'. However, the range is limited, and there is some repetition of basic verbs like 'added' and 'produced'. There are also minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'noodles discs' (should be 'noodle discs') and 'packs' (should be 'packets'). To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise verbs and nouns related to industrial processes, such as 'conveyed', 'processed', or 'automated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some passive structures, which is appropriate for a process description. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('water and oil was added', 'dough sheets was produced', 'cups was been labeled') and incorrect word usage ('than' instead of 'then'). These errors are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on ensuring that plural subjects take plural verbs and practice the correct formation of the passive voice in the past tense.
