Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While the student identifies the main stages of the noodle manufacturing process, the description is overly simplistic and lacks the necessary detail to fully explain the transformation of the raw materials. The overview is present but underdeveloped. To improve, the student needs to expand on the specific processes, such as the drying and cooking stages, and provide a more comprehensive summary of the entire cycle. The current length prevents a full development of the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as 'At a fleeting glance' and 'On next stage'. The logical progression is hindered by the brevity of the text and the lack of sophisticated linking words. Referencing is occasionally unclear, for example, 'Mixer is passed to dough', which does not accurately describe the process flow. Improving the variety and accuracy of transition signals would help the flow of information significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'stored', 'send', and 'added'. There are instances of awkward word choice, such as 'manufactured way' instead of 'manufacturing process' and 'silos is stored in flour' (which is factually confusing). The student does not demonstrate the ability to use less common vocabulary or precise technical terms related to industrial processes. To reach a higher band, the student should incorporate more descriptive verbs and nouns relevant to the diagram, such as 'conveyed', 'processed', 'dehydrated', or 'packaging'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('silos is stored', 'it send') and incorrect verb forms ('putted'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. The errors are frequent and occasionally impede the clarity of the process description. Focusing on basic sentence construction, correct tense usage, and proofreading for minor errors would be beneficial for future tasks.
